Port Royal, PA — (June 1, 2013) — Chad Layton of Harrisburg beat out fellow front row starter Greg Hodnett to notch his second Port Royal Speedway 410 sprint car win of the season on Saturday night, worth $3,000.

It was Layton’s 10th career victory at the oval and it came on Salute To The Military Night when nearly 150 military veterans and current members were saluted for their service with free admission.

In the super late model feature, Glenn Elliott of Finksburg, Md., recorded his first super late model victory anywhere in his career while Derrick Garman took the pro stock main and Bill Powell took the enduro dash victory.

Hodnett had the pole and Layton the second spot to start the 25-lap sprint car feature and when the green flag unfurled Hodnett took the lead with Layton following close.

But as hard as Hodnett tried to lead the first lap, Layton tried even harder to do the same thing and after following him down the backchute, Layton put an inside dive on Hodnett into the third turn that netted him the point.

The first 22 circuits went non-stop with Layton streaking away from the field and entering the backmarkers on the sixth lap.

All the way through lapped traffic Layton maintained a healthy advantage until the race got near the five to go point.

It was at that time that Hodnett began noticeably driving down the leader as Layton’s No. 7 seemed to be loosing traction as it blistered around the high side of the speedway.

But then a reprieve for Layton took place with three laps to go, clearing the track for the leader and cooling down all the tires.

Hodnett proved no match when green replaced the yellow and wound up taking the victory by 2.429 seconds.

Eighth starter Doug Esh finished third followed by Steve Buckwalter and Mike Erdley.

Sixth through 10th went to Dylan Cisney, Lance Dewease, Rick Lafferty, Keith Kauffman and 19th starter Blane Heimbach.

Heats for the 29-car field went to Hodnett, Layton and Davey Sammons with Heimbach taking the consolation race.

A pair of fives – Derek Byler and Elliott, started the 20-lap late model main on the front row with Elliott taking the immediate lead.

Byler was some distance behind when the races first caution flag dropped with nine laps to go as Terry Naugle lined up third for the restart.

Another yellow with five laps to go found two-time 2013 winner Matt Parks up to third and Parks used the top line to take over second on the restart.

A final yellow with two laps to go found Parks trying to run around the top on the leader but Elliott was simply too strong off of the bottom and drove to the .683 second victory.

Parks was second followed by Naugle, Tim Wilson and Chris Casner.

Sixth through 10th went to Mike Lupfer, Andy Haus, Mitch Hack, Jeff Miller and Brett Schadel.

Heats for the 25-car field went to Schadel, Andy Haus and Wilson.

Derrick Garman scored the 22nd pro stock win of his Port Royal career with a run in the 15-lap main event.

Garman started fourth in the field and had to pass Kyle Rapp for second and then Tim Fedder for the lead.

He got by Fedder with five laps down and went on to win the non-stop affair over Fedder.

Tim Krape, who went to the rear after an initial start spin, came back for third followed by Rapp and Scott Landis.

Sixth through 10th went to Nate Fisher, Dan Berry, Nate Stroup, Chase Bowsman and Dave Bowsman.

Twin heats went to Krape and Rapp.

Bill Powell took the 21st enduro dash of his Port career and his first of the season.

Powell started fifth in the 20-lapper and drove by polesitter Jason Davis for the lead with eight away.

Powell went unchallenged to the win after taking control followed by Davis, Pete Leister, Brady Cauffman and Deron Henry.

Sixth through 10th went to Corey Kepner, Tyler Amtower, Jesse Brown, Jared Fulkroad and Mike Goodwin.
