Sebetto holds on for Attica FAST win

ATTICA, Ohio – Bryan Sebetto has had a reputation for being inpatient and very daring behind the wheel of a 410 sprint car. But, the 30-year-old Fremont driver showed maturity and patience Friday at Attica Raceway Park, and it took him to victory lane on Croghan Colonial Bank/All Pro Aluminum Heads Night.

 

Sebetto, who has claimed the last two Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Titles, lead all 30 laps but it wasn’t easy by any means. On a very fast and heavy track, Sebetto road the cushion and several times escaped with the lead as he got over the ledge. Then, when he got to lapped traffic, he slowed down and carefully picked his line which allowed Brian Lay and Dale Blaney to close quickly. The last five laps had the top three running inches apart but Sebetto would take the FAST points feature event for his first Attica win of 2013 and the eighth of his career at “Ohio’s Finest Racing” speedplant.

 

“You could run it in wide open in one and two and when I had to burp it a little or missed the cushion it would bite and I had to really fight it. The lapped cars were just as fast as us and when I got to Chris (Andrews) and he was running my line, it made it interesting,” said Sebetto beside his Hammer Pallets/Crown Batter/Gressman Powersports/JLH General Contractors/Meggit Powder Coating/All Pro Heads/Butlerbuilt backed #24h.

 

“We have struggled a lot this season but we finally got an All Star win at Fremont a couple of weeks ago and that gave this entire team a lot of confidence. I think we are going to get on a roll now,” added Sebetto.

 

Fremont’s Dustin Dinan avoided catastrophe late in the Foster’s Auto Body 305 Sprint feature as two cars he was about to lap tangled and flipped inches in front of him. He would then pull away for his second career Attica victory and the second of the season at the track, as he lead all 25 laps to claim the JLH General Contractor FAST Championship points event.

 

“I don’t know how I got through that…I guess it was just luck. I kind of said a few cuss words and said I hope I can make it through,” said Dinan beside his Alley Tap Room/Tanks Meats/Johnson’s Hunting and Fishing/Quality Welding/Schiets Tender Touch Car Wash/Quaintance Farms backed #6.

 

“It was good for me to get that break at the end….that gave me a clear track. I was a little nervous because he (Nate Dussel) was pretty fast. I have to thank my crew, Dave Foos, A. J. Sleek, Jamie and Homeless and Rachel and my baby girl Skylar and Rich Farmer and Shelly Liskai for all their support,” added Dinan.

 

The Bob’s Machine Shop/BMS Engines Dirt Truck feature was a thriller, with Brian Sorg and Dustin Keegan racing side by side nearly the entire 15 laps. But, it was 11th place starter Daniel Roepke who charged through the pack and joined the top two in a three truck shoot out the last four laps. Roepke would blast into the lead on the white flag lap and held off Keegan and Sorg for his second win of the season at Attica. It was Roepke’s fifth career victory at the track.

 

“The harder I drove this thing the better it got. We had engine problems all night and it still wasn’t right, but it got us to the horse track (victory lane) and that’s all that matters,” said Roepke beside his Perkin’s Tree Service/Johnny’s Electric/Vision Quest/Village Inn backed #88.

 

In the 30-lap feature for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 410 Sprints, Brad Bowman and Sebetto would bring the field to the green with Sebetto rocketing into the lead. The action would grind to a halt on lap two as Danny Holtgraver got upside down in turn three. He would walk away but his night was done.

 

On the restart Sebetto pulled away from Bowman as Brian Lay, Brian Smith, Blaney, Caleb Griffith, Cap Henry and Brandon Martin gave chase. With Seven laps in Sebetto had built nearly a two second lead as Bowman battled with Lay and Blaney for second. Sebetto’s blistering pace put him in lapped traffic by the 11th circuit as Lay grabbed second and a lap later Blaney took third. D.J. Foos would coast to a stop off the back stretch on lap 14 to bring out the caution just as Lay and Blaney had cut Sebetto lead to less than half a second.

 

With a clear track, once again Sebetto rocketed away as Lay was now being pressured by Blaney with Bowman, Griffith and Smith in pursuit.

 

As the laps ticked off, Byron Reed, who started 15th, and defending track champion and current FAST and Attica point leader Craig Mintz, who started 14th, were charging through the field. With 10 laps to go, Reed had climbed to 7th with Mintz in 8th.

 

As Sebetto inched closer to the rear of the field, Lay and Blaney battled hard for second. When the leader caught lapped traffic with five laps to go, his nearly two second lead had once again evaporated to less than a half a second as Lay and Blaney quickly closed. Sebetto took the white flag with Lay and Blaney right on his rear bumper as lapped cars were holding up the leader. As the lead trio hit turns three and four on the final lap Blaney executed a banzai move and drove under Lay and right beside Sebetto, but the leader kept up his momentum and drove the win with Blaney, Lay, Griffith and Reed rounding out the top five.

 

Dinan and Alvin Roepke would lead the field to the green in the 25-lap 305 sprint main with Dinan powering into the lead while fourth starter Bobby Clark drove into second with Roepke, Nate Dussel, Matt Merrill and Dan Hammond in tow. Dinan set a fast pace and pulled to a sizeable lead as Clark ran comfortably in second with Roepke battling Dussel for third.

 

Dinan would encounter lapped traffic by the seventh lap but Clark could not gain ground as Roepke and Dussel continued to battle for third. Dinan escaped several close calls in traffic and would lead comfortably as Dussel got his elbows up and drove into second on lap 14. Dussel began to close as traffic was racing thick in front of the leader. Dinan was held up by two lapped cars racing side by side in front of him with four laps to go as Dussel closed to his rear bumper. The cars of Jimmy Colvin and Jeremy Duposki collided and flipped just feet in front of Dinan and Dussel with Dinan narrowly splitting the two crashing machines.

 

Just before the restart, third place running Clark would go pit side with mechanical woes. When the green reappeared, Dinan would pull away from Dussel as Roepke was not in a battle with Jordan Ryan who had started 11th, and Jason Keckler for the third spot. Keckler would drive into third with two laps to go, but could not catch the top two.

 

Dinan would drive to the win over Dussel, Keckler, Ryan and Roepke.

 

Curt Inks and Brian Sorg paced the field for the 15-lap dirt truck main with Sorg grabbing the lead over Inks, Dustin Keegan, Eric Devanna and Brian Arnold. Keegan would take second on lap two, bringing Devanna to third and Arnold into fourth. The caution would fly on lap three for a stalled Andy Keegan. On the restart, Keegan immediately drove under Sorg as they raced side by side for the lead with Arnold, Devanna, Willie Keegan, Tony Siferd and Roepke in pursuit.

 

Keegan would grab the lead on lap five with Sorg continuing to race to his inside with Arnold racing on their rear bumpers. The top three would continue to put on a great show until the caution flew on lap 9 for Todd Keegan who got hung up in turn four. When the green came back out Keegan, Sorg and Arnold continued to wage their terrific battle with Roepke closing. Roepke would take third on lap 11 and he would then join the tremendous race for the lead. Keegan, Sorg and Roepke would literally race lap after lap within inches of one another as Roepke took second on lap 13 and then drove into the lead as the white flag flew.

 

Roepke would hold off Keegan and Sorg on the final lap for the win with Willie Keegan and Brian Arnold rounding out the top five.

 

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, June 14 for Burns Electric/Ohio Logistics Mid-Season Championship Night with double track points on the line for the 410 and 305 sprints, late models and dirt trucks.
