Cox 16th at Pombo-Sargent Classic

Justyn Cox had one of those weekends he will gladly forget about. After a frustrating crash in hotlaps on Friday night ended his night, the Sacramento, CA driver slipped to a 16th place finish Saturday night in Hanford, CA.

Heading to the Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday night for a 360ci race, Cox’s night got off to a decent start, as he was very fast during his hot-lap session and sat atop the speed chart.

As the session drew to a close, Cox closed in a slower car that had gotten out of shape, and contact was made sending Cox into a hard flip, ending his night.

Sore and beaten up, Cox and his team went back to the shop, to prepare for Saturday’s event in Hanford, CA, and Cox was still fast, as he timed in third quickest against the 44 cars checked into the pit area.

Starting sixth in his heat, Cox was able to advance up the fourth spot aboard his Lucas Oil/K&N/JRI Shocks entry, putting him in the feature event.

With a ‘10’ pill being drawn, Cox lined up for the feature event in the ninth spot, and struggled.

“I just couldn’t seem to get comfortable in the car,” Cox said. “It wanted to do one thing, and I could not seem to make it happy.”

Making laps, Cox would slowly fade back to the 16th spot when the race came to a close.

“I hate going backwards, but it happens in this sport,” he said. “My guys worked their butts off all weekend long, and I cannot thank them enough. I’m a little sore from the flip, so I’ll rest up this week, and get back after this weekend.”

Justyn and his Van Dyke Motorsports team would like to thank Lucas Oil,  K&N Products, JRI Shocks, Rodgers Racing Engines, K1 Safety Gear, JRD Endeavors, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, Worton Designs, and College Cyclery for their support during the 2013 season.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-24, Wins-2, Top 5’s-8, Top 10’s-12

ON TAP: Cox and the Van Dyke Motorsports team will be in action on Friday night at the Stockton 99 Speedway for an open 360ci event.
