Mercer, PA — (July 27, 2013) — Rain settled over Mercer Raceway Park once again on Saturday, July 27, postponing the Meet Your Heroes Night, which would have been presented by Herr’s. The program will be made up, so watch for future announcements for the new date when you can meet and greet your favorite stars!

A practice session will take place on Wednesday, July 31. This is open to all types of race cars. Gates will open at 4 and practice will continue until dusk. Pit Passes will be $20. Due to insurance regulations, the spectator areas will not be open.

After the practice session, there will be a busy month of racing action.

August 3 will be a Saturday Night Live! race event, featuring the exciting six classes. But, there will be more! The younger racing fans will get their opportunities to take their bikes and trikes onto the race track. That’s right, the kid’s bike races are back, courtesy of Ray’s Racing Collectibles and Approved Toilet Rentals. Please remember that all children must have a helmet to be able to participate.

August 10 will now feature the FASTRACK Northeast Regional Pro Late Models. This program is made possible by Sweeney Chevrolet Buick and GMC. The 410 Sprint Cars will be given the night off, but all of the other regular classes will be in action. Please make note of this schedule change.

Coming on August 17 will be the annual visit of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour. The Big Block Mods will come to the cozy corners of Mercer Raceway Park to take on the track’s 358 Modifieds for a real “Smackdown.” Although the 358 powered cars have had some success against the Big Blocks at other venues, it is head to believe that they have never prevailed on their home turf! Could this be the year that one of Mercer’s favorites gets the glory? This program is made possible by Schaeffers Oil Company, and it will also include the Vintage Dirt Modifieds.

The final racing event of the month will be the 24th Annual Western PA Sprint Championship. Hovis Auto Supply will bring the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions in for their second appearance of the season. Pittsburgh’s own Danny Holtgraver took the popular win in the first visit by the touring series, but plenty of other top talents will be on hand, along with all of the Mercer regulars. So, mark your calendars for August 24 for this great event.

Mercer Raceway Park sends get well wishes to Jack Sodeman, Jr. The popular Sprint Car driver was injured at Lernerville Speedway on July 27. He was treated and released from a local hospital, but will follow-up with a specialist next week.
