Stewart Injured During the Front Row Challenge

Oskaloosa, IA — (August 6, 2013) — NASCAR Nextel Cup star Tony Stewart was injured on Monday night during the Front Row Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway.

 

Stewart was leading the feature when Josh Higday clipped a marker tire on the inside of the track and spun.  Stewart t-boned Higday and flipped violently.

 

Front Row Challenge officials indicated Stewart was awake and alert talking to the track safety crew, but Stewart-Haas Racing spokesman Mike Arning reported Stewart was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery.   We will have more updates on this situation as they become available.
