Santa Maria, CA  – (August 15, 2013)  – When the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, August 17th, there will be extra money up for grabs. Led by the efforts of Perris and Ascot infield announcer Chris Holt, the “California Racers Hall of Fame Night” will also feature the “Walt James Last Man Standing Trophy Dash” and the “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award.”
The “Walt James Last Man Standing Trophy Dash” will showcase the four fastest qualifiers in three, three lap races. The last driver will be eliminated after each of the stages and the dash winner will earn 50 percent of the purse (over $1,300 at press time). The payout for the remaining spots will be 25 percent for second, 15 percent for third, and fourth will claim 10 percent. The dash purse is currently $2,625 with a potential to reach over $3,000 by race day. An earlier release incorrectly listed the payout as winner-take-all.
The “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award” will award $700 to the driver that sets fast time in qualifications. The driver that is second fast in time trials will earn $200. More potential awards are available and interested parties can email Chris Holt at MrChrisHolt@aol.com or see him at the races.
Entering Saturday’s race, “The Demon” Damion Gardner holds a 130 point advantage over the competition. Nic Faas, 5-time champion Mike Spencer, Matt Mitchell, Bud Kaeding, Austin Williams, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, Brody Roa, Ryan Bernal, and Richard Vander Weerd round out the top-10 in points. Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Ripper” Rip Williams, “Dynamite” David Cardey, R.J. Johnson, Seth Wilson, “Super” Rickie Gaunt, Jace Vander Weerd, “The Kruser” Cory Kruseman, and many more. Local 360 iron-block powered Sprint Cars are welcome to race with USAC/CRA. The 360s can run their local approved Hoosier tires, but must meet series tech standards and race track muffler rules.
In addition to the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, the “California Racers Hall of Fame Night” will also feature the California Lightning Sprints, PAS Senior Sprint Cars, and PAS Young Gun Sprint Cars presented by The Sprint Car Driving Experience. The spectator gates at the “Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing” will open at 5:00pm and racing will start at 7:00pm.
