Brockville, ON — (August 24, 2013) — Steve Poirier’s performance Saturday Night was in effect a microcosm of his 2013 season: he started off well, established himself as a front runner early on, was challenged by some others for supremacy for a while before once again distinguishing himself when it counted the most.

Poirier, of St. Mathieu de Beloeil, QBC, scored the win Saturday Night at Brockville Ontario Speedway for his second sprint car win at the ¼-mile oval.  In an event sanctioned by the Patriot Sprint Tour, Southern Ontario Sprints and CAOSS Series, the win helped Poirier in his quest for two championships.

After starting in the third position, Poirier quickly closed in on polesitter Jason Barney on some early race restarts.  On the third start, Poirier was able to drive around Barney coming off of turn four and appeared as if he would set sail on the field.

Poirier was able to drive away, but his strength was almost a disadvantage as he ran down the back of the 26-car field by lap 10 and allowed Barney to get right back in the mix.  Another caution on lap 13 would also give Poirier the breathing room he needed.  One final restart on lap 17 saw Poirier’s No. 28FM drive away without issue to cruise to his second PST Canada Series win of the year.

Despite not being able to outrun Poirier down the stretch, Jason Barney also had a big night in his hunt for the PST Canada Championship.   Justin Barger and Jamie Collard entered the night in a tie for the series point lead but did not have the results they wanted.  Barger finished in fifth while Collard, who scored the win at Brockville back in July, finished in 12th.

One of the big stories on the night was local favorite Rick Wilson, who charged up from his 10th starting position to finish third for his best result at “The BOS” since 2008.

Chris Jones had a track-best 4th place finish, ahead of Barger, Keith Dempster, Sammy Reakes IV, Jared Zimbardi, Kevin Ward Jr and Devin Caron, who completed the top 10.

An amazing field of 26 cars included Glenn Styres, who won the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame.
