The Topside Tornado, wins 1st leg of the Triple Crown

Caanan, N.H. — (August 30, 2013) — The first race of the 2013, Bond Auto Parts, SCoNE Sprints, Labor Day Weekend, Triple Crown races was held at Canaan Dirt Speedway, and the Topside Tornado, Dan Douville won it going away.

Tunk Berry in the 21 started on the inside pole with Bruce Kimball in the 10 on the outside with Lacey Hanson in the 33 starting 3rd. Tunk led for several laps when Racey Lacey, made a pass on the inside of turn 4 to take the lead. Starting 13th in a field of 18 cars, Dan Douville in the 7X worked his way steadily toward the front. There were several restarts and Dan lived up to his nickname on the lap 9 restart,using the outside and blasting by two cars in turns one and two to move into 2nd place. On the lap 12 restart Dan went went high again and flew by Lacey for the lead.

Several cars made notable advances with Clay Dow in the 58 moving from 12th to 2nd, Chris Donnelly in the 17, from 14th to 5th, Jake Williams from 9th to 4th and Rick Martel from 11th to 6th. But the hard charger for the evening was The Topside Tornado moving from 13th to 1st for a gain of 12 positions.

Heats and the “B” main went off without a caution. Top 3 in the 1st heat were Tunk Berry in the 21, Lacey Hanson in the 33 and Troy Comeau in the 18L. Top 3 in the 2nd heat were Tyler Rich in the 20, Bob Giuliani in the 38 and Bruce Kimball in the 10. Seven cars qualified from each heat. Qualifiers from the “B” main were Brian Gray in the 8, Spencer Allen in the 22, Curt Bradshaw in the X2 and Randy Wimert in the 13.

Curt Bradshaw joined us for the 1st time this season and Brian Gray made his 1st sprint car start in the 8 normally driven by Kevin Chaffee. Kevin was in Malta, NY for a midget race but will be back with SCoNE for the remaining two races of the Triple Crown.

Next race for the Bond Auto Parts, SCoNE Sprints is Saturday, August 31st at Bear Ridge Speedway, Bradford VT. This will be the second leg of the Triple Crown. Racing starts at 6ish. Visit their website at bearridgespeedway.com for more info.
