Forler Unable to Catch Breaks at Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial

WHEATLAND, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2013) – Logan Forler’s weekend at the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial didn’t go as expected.

After registering a top five during the premier Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Lucas Oil Speedway last year and a sixth-place finish at the track earlier this season, Forler struggled to get a handle on the car last Friday.

“The car just wasn’t any good,” he said. “We tried some stuff and it didn’t work. I didn’t quite keep up with the race track like I should have. We didn’t end up very good. It wasn’t a good night.”

After winning his heat race from the pole, Forler started the main event on the outside of the fifth row. With a challenging race car, he held on for a 15 th-place result.

Saturday’s race was postponed to Sunday because of rain and Forler attacked the finale in his heat race. He started eighth, but maneuvered to a third-place result.

“In the heat race the car was really, really good,” he said. “I didn’t really make any big moves; I pretty much slid everybody that I passed. The car was really good. I could go wherever I wanted to.”

With four cars locked into the feature redraw from Friday night and only the top two points earners from Sunday’s heat races, Forler missed the redraw by two positions. He started eighth in the main event, but made a bid for a podium after a slow start.

“The first part of the main we weren’t really good,” he said. “We lost three or four spots. Then the car came in about Lap 6 and I got back up to fourth. I could pretty much go anywhere. I was really good on the top and was decent on the bottom. Turns three and four was where I passed most of the cars.”

However, Forler was caught up in a crash on the backstretch with two laps remaining and forced to restart at the tail of the field. He rebounded to place 11th.

Forler’s next scheduled event is the 40th annual Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, Oct. 18-19 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
