Tulsa, OK — (Jan. 21, 2014) — Josh Baughman is ready to return to a midget after his debut last weekend at the 28th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.

Driving for Danny and Andrew Felker, Baughman started the premier midget event last Wednesday by finishing eighth in his heat race at Tulsa Expo Raceway. That relegated him to a C Main.

“That was my first time ever even sitting in a midget,” he said of the event. “We went into it without any expectations. All in all, I thought we had a pretty good week. We got faster as the week went on.”

Baughman showed his speed in the C Main by rallying from 14th to a runner-up finish.

“At that point we had nothing to lose,” he said. “We talked about driving styles and how to drive the car compared to the winged sprint car. The faster I drove the car and the harder I drove the car the easier it was to drive. Starting in the back of the C Main and transferring to the B, we were too far behind the eight ball.”

After picking up a transfer to a B Main, Baughman tried to duplicate his previous results by earning a transfer after starting on the outside of the seventh row.

“The car was a little free,” he said. “I kept overdriving the turns. On the last turn I spun around.”

While his qualifying night ended in the B Main, Baughman took his confidence and momentum into Saturday’s finale. He again maneuvered through the field during an H Main, which he started 12th.

“We got up to second and I thought I had a run on the leader,” he said. “I went in to pass him and it wasn’t there. I ended up taking him out. I feel bad for Mickey (Walker) and his team. I was trying to win the race, but I should have settled for second and went on to the next main.”

Baughman was unable to finish the race to end his inaugural Chili Bowl.

“I want to thank Danny and Andrew and all of their family for having me drive their car,” he said. “It was a great experience and hopefully I will be back there next year.”

Baughman is scheduled to make his sprint car season debut at the 38th annual Winter Nationals – Feb. 20-22 at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla.
