February 24, 2014 – It’s time for the Brian Brown Racing Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team to hit the road for 2014!  The team is coming off its most successful season to date, having won sixteen times.  This weekend starts a lengthy west coast trip that will include the entire west coast swing with the World of Outlaws.  First up, however, will be this weekend’s two-night show at Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, Arizona with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series.  We had a chance to sit down with Brian and look at the year ahead.

What will this season’s schedule consist of?

We’re going to have a schedule that runs pretty close to where we were in 2013.  We will be running a schedule with 80-90 races that are wherever and whenever.  We’re heading out west again and doing the whole west coast swing with the Outlaws.  FVP has a strong presence on the west coast.  They are the presenting sponsor on a couple of those events so it’s exciting to get out there and interact with and race for some of their customers and employees.

Last season you were able to win the first race of the year at Tucson with ASCS, and you had several strong runs with the Outlaws.

We had some good runs out there last year.  We ran well at Vegas, and we were able to win a race in California and our first one at Tucson.  We’re not going out there just to hang out in the warmer weather, we’re looking to put some good runs together again.

You ran at Cocopah Speedway last season, and that is first up this weekend.

When we rolled in last year, we thought that track would fit our style.  We kind of struggled.  (Crew chief) Chad (Morgan) and I have talked the last couple of weeks about what we may do there.  Our goal is to win twenty races, so winning the first one would be a good start.

Many Knoxville Raceway fans are wondering if you’ll be running for points there.

That’s our goal at Knoxville.  It looks like right now, we’ll only miss one or two point shows.  We’ll be running the Outlaw race at Lakeside (Kansas) where FVP is the presenting sponsor.  The other will be the King’s Royal.  I’ve been trying to talk to the powers that be at Knoxville to make that night non-points.  There are several racers who would like to represent Knoxville, and I think that would be a good thing for them to have strong representation in the second biggest race in the world.  I think it would be a good move for them.

I know you have plenty of support at Knoxville, and the competition is always tough.

With Casey’s General Stores and Searsboro Telephone Company being so close to Knoxville, that’s where we’ll be every Saturday night given the opportunity.  It’s not going to be easy by any stretch of the imagination.  It’s probably the toughest it’s ever been in the 410 class at Knoxville.  When you go there, you need your “i’s” dotted and your “t’s” crossed.

I know you built a new shop and things have been busy with the team this winter.

We’ve worked hard on our whole program.  We’ve added Beau Stewart, a racer in his own right from Xenia, Ohio to the team.  He’s taking a year off and going on the road.  He’s been a great addition and done a great job so far as part of the team.  We’ve worked really, really hard.  We hope it shows really quick in Yuma.

What do you hope to accomplish in 2014?

Our goals are to win twenty races, win a couple of Outlaw shows, and win the Knoxville Nationals.  We’ve also got the King’s Royal, the Jesse Hockett Memorial and the I-80 “Fall Brawl” circled on the calendar.

Your partners have been involved as well, and I know you have some new ones as well.

Everyone has worked hard to make our program on the track better.  Maxim Chassis, Charlie Garrett engines, Jaymie Moyle engines…they’ve also worked hard.  We’ve added some great partners, and we’ve got some great ones returning.  We’ve added MC Power, DNA Energy, Enco Tools and Fortress Wealth Management.  We’d like to welcome them and thank them and all of our other partners as well.  Without them, we wouldn’t be able to hit the road in 2014.

Marketing Partner of the Week – Maxim Racing

Brian says, “Chuck and Karen Merrill are not only great people, but they put everything into putting the best car out on the market. I’ve always been a supporter of theirs, and with Brian Brown Racing, you’ll always see their chassis.”

Brian has been partnering with Maxim since 2003. After years of success as a car owner, Chuck Merrill started his chassis business in a rented three-bay garage in November of 1988. The first car was driven by Johnny Herrera at the Florida All Stars Sprint Week in February of 1989. By June of that year, Maxim moved into a 7,000 square foot facility. By 2001, Maxim had grown substantially producing 304 chassis that year. In 2002, Maxim moved to its present 12,500 square foot location in Springfield, Illinois. Maxim continues to offer their customers unmatched service and support, and currently has 17 quality employees, and builds over 400 chassis on an annual basis. Their world-famous “K-car” was designed for Steve Kinser, and has won ten Knoxville Nationals titles and fourteen World of Outlaws championships! To top it all, Maxim offers a warranty if you are not completely satisfied with your car. For more information on Maxim, visit www.racemaxims.com!
