Beaumont, TX — (March 17, 2014) — Seth Bergman is off to one of the best starts of his career as he recorded a runner-up finish last weekend in his third start of the season.

Bergman nearly captured the ASCS Gulf South Region season opener on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park before settling for a second-place finish following a late caution.

“We got into some good traffic at the end and I caught (Jon) Agan,” he said. “I thought I was going to drive around him on the top with two laps to go, but the caution came out. The bottom was too good and he had clean track after that.”

Bergman’s runner-up result capped a consistent night near the front for Bergman, who also advanced from third to second place during his heat race.

“Speed-wise it was what we were looking for,” he said. “We were fast all night. I felt like we did what we could with what we were dealing with in the heat race. It gave us enough points to get us in the redraw.”

Bergman pulled the No. 3 in the feature redraw, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We were right in the hunt the whole race,” he said. “We got into traffic and I got into second. As the race went on I kept getting better and better.”

Ultimately, his second-place finish gives him plenty of momentum going into this weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

“I’m happy about the speed,” he said. “I felt like when I came off the race track I did everything I could to put us in the winner’s circle.

“Our expectations are to go to Devil’s Bowl and win. Points-wise we’d be ok with coming out of there with a couple of top threes or top fives, but personally I want to win.”
