MESQUITE, Texas (March 31, 2014) – Seth Bergman got off to a rough start last Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Bergman was caught up in a crash on the opening lap of his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race at the half-mile track.

“The row in front of me got together and started crashing,” he said. “I had nowhere to go. I went to the work area and came back out, but the track was wide open, hard to pass.”

Bergman’s race car sustained a bent right rear wheel and bent front axle and the nose wing was knocked down during the collision. The team was unable to fix anything during the quick trip to the work area before Bergman returned to the track and advanced to a fifth-place result in his heat race.

“It was just one of those nights you want to forget about,” he said. “For the main event we were still tighter than we wanted to be.”

Bergman started the main event on the outside of the eighth row, but he quickly made a bid toward the top 10.

“I made a big move on the start and got around a bunch of cars, but was too tight in turns one and two,” he said. “I lifted trying to make the corner and lost all of the positions I had gained. I think I fell back to 18th and we worked back to 13th. It was hard to pass.”

He ended with a 13th-place result and is seventh in the championship standings – only 18 points out of second place.

Bergman is set to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region. He charged from 17th to eighth during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour main event at the track two years ago.

“I haven’t been in contention to win yet, but I enjoy racing there,” he said. “Hopefully we can get things rolling and get momentum to win some races.”
