Long time URC sponsor Fred Kennedy and Fred’s Trailer Parts Center of Delran, NJ will again be sponsoring URC’s nightly Hard Charger bonus. In each URC feature event, a $50 bonus will go to the driver who advances the most positions in the feature event. “I like to recognize someone who was outstanding for that night and so they make a few extra bucks”, said Fred Kennedy. In addition to the Hard Charger bonus, Fred’s Trailer Parts Center will again be a key contributor to the Rislone URC season long point fund.
Kennedy has been a member of URC since 1981, when he started his sprint car career driving a former Dave Kelly sprint car. Kennedy went on to be a car owner, with drivers like Greg Coverdale and Becca Anderson at the wheel.
Prior to racing a sprint car, Kennedy also competed in the modifieds and took a run at truck racing, but his heart is really in the sprint cars. “Sprint cars are just more exciting to drive especially with their unique handling characteristics around the turns, they are just a thrill”, said Kennedy. “A sprint race is exactly that, a sprint, and there is no time to wait, you gotta go at the drop of the green flag”, added Kennedy.
Looking to the 2014 season, Fred Kennedy will be returning as one of URC’s most recognized car owners and his goal is to win a race or two and be competitive. Fred Kennedy will have Randy West of Boyertown, PA behind the wheel. West came to URC in 2003 and across the eleven year span, he won a total of six URC sprint car feature events. Randy’s nine year old son Cody has interest in racing as well, with plans of racing every Wednesday night in a quarter midget at Phoenixville. It’s a family thing for sure as Randy’s wife Jen is usually offering a helping hand in the pits.
Fred Kennedy and Team 56 do most of the mid-week prep work on the #56 and the crew includes Randy Wilbert, Ole Guy, John Griffis, Vern Grarozzo, Cody West and Jen West. Sponsorship support for the #56 include Delran Auto Body, Minicrete, Keizer Wheels and Simpson Race Products.
In addition to his role as a URC sprint car driver, Randy run a very successful business know as West Fabrication, Inc. They do repairs and modifications to everything from a ¼ midget to sprint cars. West Fabrication specializes in 270 micro-sprints from engines to chassis.
The 2014 Rislone URC Sprint Series will open at the Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC on Friday night April 11 followed by a stop at the Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, SC on Saturday night, April 12. Both events are non-point races. The first URC point race will take place at the Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night, April 19.
