is eager to forget about last weekend.

“To me the whole weekend was circumstantial more than anything else,” he said.

Competing with the ASCS Gulf South Region, Kulhanek opened the weekend last Friday by finishing where he started – third – in his heat race at Heart O’Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas. That earned him enough points to start 10th in the feature.

“I wasn’t fast,” he said. “I wasn’t slow. I was just there.”

Kulhanek lost his brakes within the first half dozen laps and it wasn’t until a late red flag before they returned.

“It made it difficult on the entry to the corners,” he said.

After dropping outside the top 10 because of the issue, Kulhanek rebounded in the closing laps to post an eighth-place result – his third top 10 of the season.

On Saturday, the team headed to Gator Motorplex for the 3rd annual Nolan Wren Memorial, which started out well. Kulhanek charged from fourth to a second-place result in his heat race. That earned him the most points of any driver in the heats and a trip to the feature redraw, where he pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

Then bad luck reared once again.

“I had to start last because the motor wouldn’t turn over,” he said. “We had to back it down. I guess they counted that as my first shove and I was requiring a second one.”

After tagging the field, Kulhanek methodically maneuvered toward the top 10 before a crash late in the race forced him to the back again.

“I got ran over by a guy and had to go to the back again,” he said. “It was rubber down on the bottom. You pretty much had to wait for someone to make a mistake to get by them or move them out of the way.”

Kulhanek ended with a 16th-place result and now ranks sixth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.

“Track position meant a lot,” he said. “If we had got to keep our starting position for Saturday night we had a top-three car.”

Kulhanek is slated to take this weekend off before the next ASCS Gulf South Region weekend, which is May 2 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and May 3 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
