Putting together his family car, Justyn Cox visited the Petaluma Speedway on Saturday night and picked up a second place finish on the hooked up black clay.
Timing in eighth fastest, Cox went on to win his heat, and found his Cox Racing entry on the front row of the feature event.
Settling into the second spot when the race got underway, Cox chased after race leader, Geoff Ensign, aboard his Capitol Casino/Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet/JRI Shocks entry.
Getting into lapped traffic, Cox closed in on Ensign, and began battling with him for the race lead.
Finding real estate on the bottom of the speedway, Cox went to make his move, and as he gave it his best shot, the yellow flag waived, and put their battle on hold.
On the restart, Ensign proved he was good in clean air, as he distanced himself from Cox, as Cox continued to run in the second spot.
In what was a short run to the finish, traffic did not re surface, and Cox settled for a second place finish.
“I wanted to win that one so bad after what my entire family has been through the last two weeks,” Cox said. “I can’t thank everyone enough for all of their help getting this car together, and working so hard at the track. It was a blast to be back in the Cox Racing machine.”
