After crashes Wednesday and Friday night, Ian Madsen went out and dominated the opening night at the Knoxville Raceway, giving him an early boost in what many are calling the toughest weekly show ever at the historic speedway.

“Man winning can make a terrible week feel great,” Madsen said. “To give Bret Nehring his first Knoxville win with all of our sponsors up in the sweet is a great feeling.”

Timing in seventh fastest, Madsen ran third in his heat race, and found his Nehring Construction/Logan Contractors Supply/Royal Flooring No. 18 machine on the front row of the feature event alongside fellow Australian, Brooke Tatnell.

With Tatnell getting the jump on the initial start, that was waived off due to a spinning car, Madsen stormed into the lead on the second start, as he rode the Knoxville cushion and jumped out to a very large lead.

Staying true to the top, Madsen was flawless in lapped traffic, though on a pair of occasions slower cars nearly ran him out of real estate, but he was able to clear them, and cruise on to the very impressive victory.

Madsen and his KCP Racing team kicked their week off on Wednesday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA, and in heat race action, Madsen got into a wreck while taking the green, and crashed big time, causing extensive damage to his machine.

Not nearly close to being right, Madsen and his team started the feature event, and with a very bent up car, he was able to carve his way from his 16th starting spot to pocket a sixth place finish.

Friday night, the team was in action in Granite City, IL and were involved in a pair of wrecks.

After wrecking early in the feature, Madsen rallied to get back up to the 10th spot, before a late wreck knocked him out of competition.

“Wednesday and Friday were absolutely brutal,” Madsen said. Leonard Lee and Michael Williams worked their tails off both nights and got our stuff in order for Saturday, so to win that was really huge.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply, Royal Flooring, Greenland Homes of Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Factory Kahne, Rider Racing Engines, JRS Excavating, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, The Stone Shop, Aspen Air Inc.
