Pleasing Easter Trail for Anderson

By Daniel Powell

Despite the 2013-14 season being one of limited appearances, Grant Anderson was able to cap the season with a pleasing top-three overall finish in the final Easter Sprintcar Trail point standings.

Anderson, who claimed the 2008-09 season Easter Trail overall point standings win, managed to finish all three nights of competition – Avalon Raceway, Borderline Speedway and Premier Speedway – inside the top 10 of the feature race. These performances rewarded him with a third-place finish in the overall point standings.

“We had a really good run over the nights and were rewarded with a pleasing overall result,” said Anderson. “Three consecutive nights on three different tracks does create its fair share of challenges, but when you can come away with consistent performances overall three nights makes it very rewarding for the whole team.”

The Vic # 37 Fuchs Lubricants / Latrobe Valley Bandag supported COOL driver paid tribute to the efforts of his team throughout their short 2013-14 season.

“Not being able to race regularly does have its disadvantages, but my team hasn’t missed a beat,” he praised. “It has been the support of my team that has played a massive part in being able to remain competitive.”

Anderson finished the opening night on Good Friday at Avalon Raceway in an impressive fifth after starting from the back of the field (position 18 due to a fourth-place finish in the B main), then on the second night on Saturday night at Borderline Speedway, he finished 10th after starting from that position due to the track being locked down, and on the third and final night on the Sunday night at Premier Speedway, he drove strongly to qualify fifth for the feature race and then went on to finish second behind local Jamie Veal.

“Due to a poor time trial on the opening night, we were left to play catch up, which we managed to do very well,” commented Anderson. “On the second night, the track was a fast freight train – where no one was able to pass anyone, and then on the third and final night, I had a great run in the feature race and was chasing after Vealy (Jamie Veal) for the lead, but I wasn’t able to get a run on him in lapped traffic and ended up second.”

The Easter Trail brought to a close the 2013-14 season for Anderson.

During the off season, Anderson and the team will work out their 2014-15 season plans.
