Knoxville, IA — (May 3, 2014) — After scoring sixteen wins in 2013, Brian Brown had a rough start this season.  He finally broke through with a hard-earned victory on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway.  The win was the Grain Valley, Missouri driver’s 26th in 410 competition at Knoxville placing him ninth on the all-time wins list.  Knoxville’s Joe Beaver won for the second time this season in the 360 class, while Holt’s Summit, Missouri’s J Kinder won in the 305 class.

Lynton Jeffrey shot out from the pole to lead early in the 20-lap 410 feature event with Brown and Justin Henderson in tow.  Soon, Terry McCarl took over third before Cole Wood flipped in turn four with six laps in the books.  The Auburn, California driver was taken to the hospital for observation.

The red flag occurred right after Brown had passed Jeffrey for the lead and negated the move.  Brown made good on the pass on the eighth lap, however, before Garrett Dollansky stopped after tagging the wall.  Brown led Jeffrey, McCarl, Henderson and Craig Dollansky back to green flag racing.

On lap ten, McCarl shot by Jeffrey for second and began his pursuit of Brown.  The leader was undeterred despite one more caution period of a spun Bronson Maeschen with eleven laps down.  Dollansky would get by Jeffrey a lap later to secure third, while McCarl did his best to get by Brown to no avail.

Brown went on to record the win in the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 ahead of McCarl, Dollansky, Dusty Zomer and Jeffrey.  Davey Heskin, Ian Madsen, Clint Garner, Henderson and Dustin Selvage rounded out the top ten.  Henderson registered the quick time of the night, while Brown, Mark Dobmeier, Garner and Madsen won heat races.  Dakota Hendrickson took the B main.  Ryan Bunton got upside down in his heat after contact from another car.  Cap Henry backed his mount into the turn one wall in his heat.  Niether was injured.

“When you have a multi-time champion behind you like Terry, you just don’t know what to do,” said Brown in Victory Lane.  “He can run the bottom and the top.  He’s a hell of a competitor and a guy I grew up idolizing.  He’s a hell of a racecar driver.  We needed this win.  Everyone on this team has been a big support.  That support means more when you are down, and I feel like the luckiest guy in the world.”

Joe Beaver shot out to an early lead in the 15-lap 360 feature from his pole position.  Jamie Ball came from row two to settle into second, while Jon Agan moved into third on lap three.  Beaver got a bit sideways on the sixth lap, allowing Ball to drive around him to the point.  Sixth running Russ Hall got sideways at that point, while Carson McCarl tagged the wall but continued to avoid him.

The restart saw Ball leading Beaver, Agan, Jarrod Schneiderman and Jonathan Cornell.  At the drop of the green, Beaver surged back by Ball and went on to win in the Beaver Motorsports #53 for the fifth time in his career at Knoxville.  Ball followed in second ahead of Justin Henderson, Cornell and Agan.  Nate Van Haaften, Schneiderman, Billy Alley, Tony Shilling and hard-charger, Matt Moro, who turned over in his heat, completed the top ten.  Agan, Dylan Peterson and Carson McCarl won heat races.  Russ Hall posted quick time of the night.

“I jumped the berm and just about spun out,” said Beaver of Ball’s pass for the lead on lap six.  “He got into one a little tentative (on the restart), and we drove him as hard as we could.  We were pretty good after that.  I want to thank Don Long.  This is his motor and I appreciate all he does for us.”

Kevin Hetrick led early on in the 12-lap 305 feature ahead of Tanner Edwards and Keoni Texeira.  J Kinder was moving up quickly from his starting spot outside row four, however.  The night’s quick-timer grabbed third from Texeira on lap five, and second from Edwards on the next go-around.

A Christopher Scank flip slowed things with six in the books.  Scank was uninjured.  The restart gave Kinder the opportunity to shoot by Hetrick and he would never look back in route to his fourth career win here.  Matthew Stelzer closed late to finish second, ahead of Steve Breazeale, who made a last lap pass for third.  Hetrick settled for fourth ahead of Stacey Alexander.  Edwards, Texeira, Jeff Wilke, Mike Philben, who flipped after the checkers, and Mike Mayberry rounded out the top ten.  Kinder registered quick time, while Stelzer, Philben and Mayberry won heats.

“We worked hard to be here,” said Kinder in Victory Lane.  “I have to thank my Uncle who took a couple of days off work to get this motor ready.  Hogzilla is back!  I’d like to thank anyone who helped me get here.  This is what I want to do.”
