– NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. (May 5, 2014) – Trey Starks capped a rough weekend on Sunday by earning his sixth top 10 of the season.

“We had a string of bad runs going,” he said. “We learned some stuff this weekend and it was good to wrap it up with a solid finish. We needed a couple of more laps at Susquehanna and we might have had a top five.”

Starks ended his weekend tripleheader by advancing from 11th to place sixth at Susquehanna Speedway Park on Sunday.

“I had just hoped to get a good finish to pick us up from our rough weekend at Eldora,” he said.

And it did just that, stopping a four-race skid when Starks hadn’t earned a top 15 during the past couple of weeks.

Last weekend opened with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series two-day event at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, where Starks battled mechanical issues all weekend.

On Friday, he qualified 22nd quickest and maneuvered from sixth to fifth place in his heat race to earn a lock-in position for the main event. However, Starks was doomed when his left rear shock broke during the feature and he finished 23rd.

The team returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday.

“I picked up a vibration in hot laps,” he said. “We thought we had it fixed, but it shook the car pretty bad in qualifying. We ended up having a u-joint come apart on us. It shook me so bad I couldn’t even see.”

Starks qualified 31st quickest and the team changed the engine before the heat race. Starks then ended where he started – eighth – in his heat to be relegated to the Last Chance Showdown, where Starks rallied from 11th to seventh to miss a transfer by only three positions.

“That track is a place you’ve got to have a bunch of laps at,” he said. “We try to go there every time we can. It’s tough running right up against the fence like that. It’s a fun track to race on.”

Starks is scheduled to compete this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., with his season debut at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., set for Saturday.
