Afton, N.Y. — (May 10, 2014) — Rain was in the forecast and slowly moving east, but that didn’t stop the I-88 Speedway crew or the CRSA Sprint cars from putting on an awesome show, on an awesome race track this past Friday night!
Promotors Jamie Page and Ronnie Ford made the decision to adjust the nights line-up in order to get this race in the books. The scheduled ” fan appreciation” was postponed and the A-Main was moved from last to the third feature and it paid off… The racing surface was smooth, bitey, and super fast.
Brittany Tresch and Kyle Smith brought the twenty car field to Kenny Marshall’s green flag and the race was on. Tresch put her #2 out front as third place starter, Billy Jaycox, had his #5J on her rear bumper and Smith slid into the third spot. 2013 CRSA Champion, John Matrafailo, ran fourth, and Danny Varin, driving the Dan Coumo 07p, completed lap one in the fifth spot. As Brittany was slowly pulling away from the field, all eyes were on the orange #30 of Scott Goodrich. Coming up from his ninth starting spot, Goodrich used the extreme bottom groove as the “doors” kept opening up and he took every advantage possible as he found himself in third by lap three. Varin shot into fourth, Smith was fifth, and Dustin Purdy was now sixth. Tresch was setting a torrid pace and with a comfortable lead but was heading into lap traffic. This allowed Jaycox and company to close the gap. Lap fourteen was action packed! As track announcer, Leon Andrus, put it, “we’ve got sprint cars all around the race track!!” This is what Brittany Tresch didn’t need as she and Jaycox got bottled up with lap cars down the front and watched the #30 and the #07p drive by in turns one and two. Goodrich charged down the back stretch with the lead and Varin was in hot pursuit. Tresch refused to give up and returned to challenge Varin numerous times throughout the next few laps. At the end of the CAUTION FREE twenty five laps, it was Goodrich bringing home the win! Varin crossed the line in second with smoke and steam bellowing out from under the hood. Tresch finished her nice run in third, Jaycox fourth, and Dustin Purdy moved his #83 into fifth to round out the top five.
A-Main finish:  Scott Goodrich, Danny Varin, Brittany Tresch, Bill Jaycox, Dustin Purdy, Kyle Smith, John Matrafailo, Jeremy Quick, Brett Jaycox, Dalton Herrick, Mike Kiser, Art Kiser, Jeff Van Steenburg, Jordan Thomas, Chuck Alessi, Emily VanInwegen, Joe Kata, Jon Preston, Warren Alexson, Josh Pieniazek.
