– LUBBOCK, Texas (May 12, 2014) – Confidence is at a season high for Graves Motorsports and driver Kolt Walker.
The team is coming off its first top five of the season, which validated the recent setup changes and new car combination.
“The changes that we made were a night and day difference,” Walker said. “I think we’re on to something now. As far as confidence goes, it’s definitely up. I’m not scratching my head while we go to the track now. I’ve got a good starting point.”
The team enters this weekend’s ASCS Lone Star Region doubleheader in Texas ranked third in the championship standings.
“Since we’re running for points obviously we’re going for the win,” Walker said. “With the changes that we’ve made, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be out there battling for the lead. However, if we can only get to second, then we run second rather than forcing it and chancing a crash.”
This week’s competition kicks off on Friday at Boyd Raceway in Boyd, where Walker won his heat race and finished seventh in the main event last season.
“I like the little track,” he said. “If they’ve got it prepped and a little bit of moisture in it, it can be quite fast.”
The weekend wraps up on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Walker picked up his lone feature win of the season at the half-mile track last season and he placed ninth there with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour earlier this season.
“Devil’s Bowl is somewhere I’m pretty familiar with,” he said. “You can’t go there thinking you have the car set up ready to go. One week it might be fast and heavy. The next night might be slick and smooth. You’ve really got to pay attention to that track because it can go either way real quick.”
