Jackson, MN — (June 7, 2014) — After Mother Nature won big at Jackson Speedway on May 31, the Fifth Annual Dominc Bruns Memorial Race was held Saturday, June 7 at the Jackson Speedway. The annual event, designed to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, attracted a total of 113 cars to the historic half-mile oval at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Sponsoring the night’s racing action were the Livewire Printing Company; Erickson Trucks and Parts and the Shear Shack, all of Jackson and Griffith Decorative Concrete of Estherville, IA.
The Dominic Bruns Memorial offered a special $1,000 to win for the IMCA Stock Car Feature event as the feature event of the evening’s program. As part of the Bruns Memorial, Stock car drivers went through the stands passing the helmet for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research, and racing fans donated $733.65 to further research and education in memory of Dominc, the seven-month old son of Becky and Shane Bruns. Also,a special feature was held for the Minnesota West Technical College Power Sports Technology Micro Sprints. Winning the special feature was Wade Husiman of Orange City, IA.
The night’s feature wins went to Jody Rosenboom of Rock Rapids, IA in the Minnesota West Technical College Power Sports Technology Micro Sprints, with Megan Lappegard of Estherville, IA winning the in the Yellowbook Sport Compacts heat race. In the Loosbrock Digging Service IMCA Hobby Stocks, Malik Sampson of Worthington, MN captured the checkered flag. The Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine IMCA Sport Modified feature win went to Matthew Looft of Swea City, IA. For the Last Deck 360 Winged Sprint feature, Roger Crockett of Medford, OR, and winning the $1,000 Fifth Annual Dominic Bruns Memorial Feature in the Hometown Motors IMCA Stock Car class was Jake Masters of Graettinger, IA.
Heat race winners in the Wingless Minniakota Micro Sprints were Chad Nachtigal of Little Rock, IA and John Sullivan Arnolds Park, IA. The Yellowbook Sport Compact heat race checkers went to Megan Lappegard of Estherville, IA. In the Loosbrock Digging Service IMCA Hobby Stocks, heat wins went to Jeff Senne of Fairmont, Trevort Holm of Chandler and Drew Bargloff of Sioux Rapids, IA. Heat races in the Bohl’s Small Engine and Marine Sport Modifieds went to Bruce Egeland of Marshall, Justin Schuder of Fairmont and Matthew Looft of Swea City, IA. For the Last Deck 360 Winged Sprint heats, wins were earned by Skyler Prochaska of Lakefield, Nick Lusk of Oakdale, MN, and Gregg Bakker of Sioux Falls, SD., while Jake Masters of Graettinger, IA, Devin Smith of Lake City, IA and Dan Mackenthun of Hamburg, MN earned the wins in the heat races for the Hometown Motors IMCA Stock Cars.
The Jackson Speedway will host the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars this Friday night, June 13. The Pits will open at 2 p.m. and the grandstands will open at 4 p.m. Hot Laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Qualifying set for 7 p.m. Racing action will begin at 7:30p.m. The Loosbrock Digging Service IMCA Hobby Stocks will be the support class for the evening’s racing action, which is part of the Steve Kinser Farewell Tour.
