Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway, Terry Schank won a thrilling race over Joe Stornetta and Gary Nelson, Jr as Tommy Laliberte was able to capture the Joe Hunt Series Championship in what the series’ final even of 2014.

With Terry Schank and Shayna Sylvia leading to field to green for the 30-lap season finale, it was Sylvia jumping out to the early lead, though she had the veteran, Terry Schank, on her tail.

As Sylvia led the first lap, Schank would jump into the lead on the second lap, as he blasted around the Petaluma Speedway, slowly opening his lead, though behind him, Stornetta and Nelson were working their way forward.

Schank stayed in command during a majority of the race, but as the laps clicked off things got very exciting as the battle up front got very heated up as a three-car fight in lapped traffic got a huge roar from the crowd.

With Nelson all over Schank’s rear bumper, he was able to get a run heading into the first set of turns to take the lead, but Schank returned the favor and slid him in turns three and four to re assume the lead with 10-laps to-go.

As Nelson looked to rebound, Joe Stornetta was able to also slide up in front of him as he took the second spot, and began his pursuit at Schank, as he looked for any opening giving him a challenge at the top-spot.

Stornetta was able to reel Schank in, and with five laps to go, was all over the race leader. With lapped cars also in the fray, Stornetta made slight contact with one, getting himself just slightly out of shape, but that was all Schank needed, as he was able to get some breathing room, and  race his way to the win aboard the Scott DuPont owned No. 3X machine.

Stornetta would hold to second with Nelson crossing the stripe third, Trevor Schmid finishing fourth, and Shany Myhre rounding out the Top-Five.

Tommy Laliberte finished the feature event in the sixth spot, and it was good enough to give himself the 2014 series Championship.

In prelimonary action, Rowdy McLennon started the night off by setting a new track record at the speedway, as he stopped the clocks with a lap of 13.711 seconds.

Heat race wins went to Myhre, and Laliberte, while Sylvia won the dash, giving her the right to start the feature event on the pole.
