– When Phulps Motorsports and Ryan Bernal teamed up at the end of the 2013 season, they had lofty goals for the 2014 season. Those goals were met, and exceeded, as Bernal and company were able to pick up 10 wins in 22 starts and capture the 2014 USAC Western Classic Championship.

“I think we all worked really well together,” Bernal said. “10 wins is always a really strong season, and we still have a couple of big shows coming to close out our 2014 season.”

Competing in a total of 13 360ci events, Bernal and the Phulps Motorsports No. 56 were nearly unbeatable, as the Hollister, CA pilot picked up 10 feature event wins.

With a high win percentage comes a couple of hot streaks, and Bernal did some streaking has he ripped off six feature event wins over the summer, as well as putting together a three-race win streak.

Bernal and his team also picked up some notable wins as he won both the Cotton Classic and the Peter Murphy Classic, that were both held at the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA.

“When we got together at the end of 2013 things did not go well, as I crashed hard a couple of times, but we really clicked out of the box in 2014, and had a special season,” he added.

In other 360ci action, Bernal was able to score five fast-time awards, and seven total heat race victories. Aside from winning at the Thunderbowl, Bernal and company were also victorious at the Calistoga Speedway, Ocean Speedway, Kings Speedway, Marysville Raceway Park, and the Petaluma Speedway.

Competing with the USAC/CRA 410ci cars on nine different occasions, things did not quite go how they did with the 360ci series, but overall the team was pleased with how things went.

“We weren’t nearly as successful with the 410 as we would have liked to be, but we had some bad luck running well on a couple of occasions, and showed some really good speed at times,” Bernal added.

In those nine starts, Bernal did pick up three heat race wins, and scored a second place finish at the Ocean Speedway. Though it doesn’t show up in the results, Bernal led or rain in the top three late in the race on three different occasions, before issues knocked him and his team out of a top result.

“Things did not go our way on a handful of occasions with the 410ci engine under the hood, but that happens in this sport,” he added. “I cannot thank everyone at Phulps Motorsports for their hard work during the 2014 season, and I am extremely excited for what we have planned in 2015.”

Bernal and the Phulps Motorsports team would like to thank Keizer Wheels, DMI, S&S Automotive, King Racing Products, Metal Works, Hoosier Racing Tires, Core Power, ART Chassis, Tri-L Mandarin Ranch, Tel-Tac, Willwood, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Permatex, Alan Kaiser Construction, Outlaw Graphics, BR Motorsports, FK Rod Ends, STIDA, and Dean Dealy Motorsports for their support during the 2014 season.

ON TAP: Bernal and the Phulps Motorsports team will be in action for the 360ci and 410ci Oval nationals, the Western World Championships, and a two-day show in Las Cruces, NM Thanksgiving Weekend.
