Peoria, AZ — (February 24, 2015) — The 2015 racing season at Canyon Speedway Park officially gets under way with this Saturday night’s blockbuster Season Opener that features the return of winged Sprint Cars to the 1/3-mile clay oval.

Following an open practice session on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday’s CSP Season Opener goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday’s card will feature the ASCS Southwest Region winged Sprint Cars along with the 9th World Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades and Dwarf Cars.

The CSP Season Opener will mark the first winged Sprint Car outing at Canyon Speedway Park since August of 2013, when Las Cruces shoe Rick Ziehl raced to his second win of the year in as many CSP efforts.

Ziehl topped the recent ASCS Southwest opener at Casa Grande to take the early series points lead over Lorne Wofford, Billy Chester III, Ryan Linder and Casey Buckman.

The top winged contenders will face some CSP specialists, as R.J. Johnson and Mike Martin are among the typically topless contenders that will be donning wings for Saturday night action.

After winning two of three Winter Challenge events at CSP in January, Ricky Thornton, Jr., kicks off his pursuit of the track’s 9th World Vapor IMCA Modified title that is worth $2,500 in 2015.

Reigning champion Matt Martinez kicks off his pursuit of the $2,000-to-win Arizona Differential Pure Stock championship after taking two of three Winter Challenge wins as well.

David Harrington begins his Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades title defense, with this year’s title worth $750.

The Renegades race for $300 to win and $50 to start with progressive purses in effect for IMCA Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Progressive purse information is available at http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/driver-info/purse/.
