Cox Captures First Career Placerville Win

PETERSEN MEDIA

Making the decision at the start of the year to improve at the Placerville Speedway by running at the ¼ mile facility as often as they could, Justyn Cox and his Cox Racing team saw their efforts rewarded on Saturday night as Cox picked up his first career win at the speedway, also marking the first win for him behind his family owned machine.

“It is a dream come true to win at the Placerville Speedway,” Cox said. “I used to watch my dad race here when I was growing up, and have always dreamt about winning a race there. This team has worked hard all year, and this feels great.”

18 cars would fill the pit area, and Cox would get things started off by timing his Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine timed in sixth fastest during qualifying time trials.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race, Cox would get a great jump as he stormed into the lead and picked up the win, giving him a berth in the night’s redraw for the feature event.

Finding himself with the one pill, Cox would lead the field to green for the 25-lap feature event. When the green flag dropped, Cox would get the jump over Mike Benson as he led the first lap until the caution flag flew.

Continuing to lead, a string of cautions would fly within the first 10-laps though Cox would not let that rattle his rhythm. When the race got into a flow following a lap-10 restart, Cox would feel pressure from a charging Andy Gregg and the duo would battle as lapped traffic came into play.

A restart on lap 21 saw a pair of lapped cars give Cox some breathing room over second place, but as he came to take the white flag the caution would waive for one final time.

Getting a great jump, Cox would drive away from his challengers as he picked up his first career win at the Placerville Speedway.

“I can’t thank my sponsors and crew enough for all of their support to myself and this team,” Cox said. “The only thing that would make this night better is if my dad was here, but I know he is just as excited as we all are. Aside from my family I also have to thank Rod Tiner Jr, Dan, Eric, Kyle and AJ for all of their efforts.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, LRB, JRI Shocks, Konnected, Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, JRD Endeavors, VSR, ART, Axcel Race Suits, SafRacer.Com, K&N Performance, Justice Brothers, Cheetah IV Racing, E-ST Garage, Worton Designs, Manzer Motorsports,  and Tim’s Hot Rod Shop for their support in 2015!
