ELMA, Wash. (June 21, 2015) – Henry Van Dam returned to Victory Lane on Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Van Dam put together a strong performance throughout the event to register his second feature triumph of the season at the 3/8-mile oval.

“It was great,” he said. “We built a brand new car last week. We worked hard so to get immediate results was pretty awesome.”

Van Dam opened the race by setting quick time during qualifying.

“The track was going away quick,” he said. “We went out and put down a good time. We just hit our marks. I think no matter where we went out we would have been good.”

That lined him up on the outside of the second row for a heat race.

“I was able to get to third on the first lap and I think we had a restart on Lap 3,” he said. “I drove around the guy for second and then rode around the bottom for the rest of the race.”

The feature inversion was a four, which started Van Dam on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“I got to third right away and the track was still narrow around the bottom,” he said. “I started working the top. I lost some ground for a while, but I kept working it and nobody was able to get by me. About Lap 10 it started coming in. I think by Lap 14 or 15 I got to second. I was just about ready to get to first. I showed my nose to the outside and (the leader) slid up to the top. I thought I was going to run second, but we had a restart on Lap 22 and I was able to slide him in turns three and four and then checked out for the win.”

Van Dam’s late-race pass built momentum entering the Fred Brownfield Classic featuring the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour July 3-4 at Grays Harbor Raceway.

“I feel like our momentum is going the right way,” he said. “We’ve had fast race cars. To be able to put a new one together and have the same speed I feel comfortable going into the Fred Brownfield Classic.”

Van Dam will take this weekend off from racing, but he will participate in a Kick-It kickball game hosted by the Big Al Kids & Motorsports Foundation on Saturday in the parking lot at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
