CLEVELAND, Texas (June 28, 2015) – Ray Allen Kulhanek returned to Victory Lane for the second time this season on Saturday at Bronco Raceway Park.

Kulhanek and his team took advantage of a rare opportunity to race once Saturday’s ASCS Gulf South Region event had been cancelled. It marked the ninth cancellation out of the 14 scheduled events this season because of weather.

“There weren’t a bunch of cars there, but we were rained out and everybody wants to go race,” he said. “Fortunately Bronco opened up the doors. Just to be able to race was great because all these rainouts are depressing.”

Kulhanek won his heat race from the pole position to lock himself into the sixth starting position for the 20-lap main event.

“We took off on the start and went from sixth to third in the first turn,” he said. “It took me about six or seven laps to get the second-place driver set up to where I could make a pass on him. Then it took me about six laps to run the leader down. Once we got in the lead we pulled away. I could move anywhere on the track. I had no complaints about the car.”

Kulhanek led the final third of the race to capture his second win in his last four races.

The weekend began on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region. Kulhanek maneuvered from seventh to third place during a heat race to lock himself into the feature redraw.

“We pulled the eight again,” he said. “Surprise, surprise.”

That lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“Friday night was a matter of track position,” he said. “It was a big key the way the track was. There wasn’t much of an opportunity to pass. About Lap 11 or 12 it started getting rubber. Once rubber comes down it’s a freight train and you hope somebody misses on entry (to the corners) so you can get your nose in there to make a move to get by.”

Kulhanek advanced from eighth to a fifth-place result, which marked his sixth top five in 10 races this season.

“We were fortunate to pass three cars to get in the top five,” he said. “I’m disappointed, but at the same time it was a decent run. We knew we were as good as the other four guys in front of us.”

Kulhanek, who ranks third in the championship standings, is scheduled to return to competition with the ASCS Gulf South Region July 17 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and July 18 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
