SYRACUSE, NY – It started as a trial in 2013 and in just two short years it has now become a tradition. The SUNY Canton Central New York Speedweek brought to you by the Einstein Construction Group for the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS).
Five great nights at five great tracks, July 1-5. Brewerton, Canandaigua, Can-Am, Fulton and Utica-Rome Speedways will be hosting some of the best 360 sprint car drivers in the Northeast and Canada.
Steve Poirier is defending and five-time ESS champion but he has yet to win a CNY Speedweek crown. Michael Parent (2013) and Jason Barney (2014) hold those accolades. Poirier is leading the overall points coming in and hopes to come out with the same lead after the five nights.
With the Speedweek grind, the title is wide open and a who’s who will be on hand. Barney is right behind Poirier in points followed by Matt Tanner, Jeff Cook, Chuck Hebing, Tommy Wickham, Paulie Colagiovanni, Paul Kinney, Parker Evans, Zach Weigand, Dave Axton, Shawn Donath, Mike Stelter, Kory Gurney, Denny Peebles, Pete Richardson and others following the ESS Tour this year.
With the exciting five nights of racing, many other top 360 stars will also be at all or some of the shows. Pa will send up Mark Smith and Keith Prutzman with Davie Franek once again coming from New Jersey. Bryan Howland will be looking for his first ever Speedweek crown. But, there’s more, Stewart Friesen, Danny Varin, Larry Wight, Etienne Girard, Cory Sparks, Yan Bilodeau, Dylan Swiernik, Gordy Button and many more will see action.
Each event pays $2,000 to win, $400 for tenth and $250 to take the green. If you happen to be a DNQ you will receive $100. Thanks to SUNY Canton and Einstein Construction Group there will be a minimum of a $2,000 point fund that will be paid out to the top 10.
Ohio started it, Central Pa. followed and then Central NY and the Lucas Oil ESS gang and joined in on the fun. Speedweek is here and it will be excitement guaranteed!!!
