Civil War Series Sails Into Ocean Speedway For HK Classic Friday Night

PETERSEN MEDIAcivilwarlogo2014

For the second consecutive year, the high octane Civil War Series presented by Flowmaster will embark on the Ocean Speedway to challenge the Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo to open up the 5th Annual Howard Kaeding Classic on Friday night.

Paying homage to the “Campbell Comet”, Friday night is a showcase of California’s top traveling 360ci teams taking on the tough contingent from the Ocean Speedway as a healthy car count is expected as drivers battle for one of the crown jewels of the season.

Leading both series’ into the event is Watsonville, CA pilot, Justin Sanders. Having a dominant year at the Ocean Speedway to date, Sanders already has four wins at the Ocean Speedway, but he is still in search of his first win with the Civil War Series, and enters Friday night’s event as a marked man.

During the inaugural running of the 360ci portion of the HK Classic one year ago, it was Stockton, CA driver Brad Furr grabbing the win as he fended off furious charges from Alissa Geving and Jonathan Allard. Though he hasn’t competed much with the Civil War Series in 2015, Furr sits second in Ocean Sprints standings, and should be a factor on Friday night.

During the series’ most recent event on June 20th, Jonathan Allard became the lone repeat winner through seven races in 2015. Putting together a masterful performance at the Petaluma Speedway, Allard enters Friday night’s event on a hot streak. Looking like the car to beat at the Ocean Speedway two weeks ago with the KWS series, the Chico, CA driver will make a bid for his third win of the series in 2015.

With Sanders out in front, Bradley Terrell and Robbie Price sit in a dead heat for the second spot, both trailing by 67 markers. Andy Forsberg, who also has visited victory lane on occasion at the Ocean Speedway sits in fourth 126 markers out, while Koen Shaw rounds out the Top-Five 129 points out of the lead.

Other drivers expected to be on hand on Friday night include Shane Golobic, Sean Becker, Cody Lamar, Matt Peterson, Steven Tiner, Kyle Hirst, Bud Kaeding, Tommy Tarlton, Brent Kaeding, Colby Copeland, Ryan Bernal, Jason Statler, Dominic Scelzi, Jeremy and Jason Chisum, Kurt Nelson, and many more of the regions top drivers.

Friday night tickets will go on sale starting at $15 for children 6-12, with adult General Admission tickets being sold for $20, while children five and under will be admitted for free. The front gate is scheduled to open at 4pm with qualifying slated for 6pm.

With the King of the West Series along with the Wingless Series taking to the speedway on Saturday night, camping is available on the grassy area behind the main grandstands. Spots with hook ups will be $40 a night, while dry camping spots are available for $20 a night.

The Howard Kaeding Classic brings a ton of activites for fans and drivers starting with the 2nd Annual HK Classic Car Show and BBQ at the High Five Pizza located at the Silver Creek Sports Plex in San Jose on July 8th  from 5pm-9pm.

Following Friday night’s race, High-Five Pizza will be busy again as they host the annual post race party in the pit area. With appetizers and drinks on hand, fans are invited to come out and mingle with their favorite drivers.

Saturday afternoon the Catering By 5 crew will be back on hand for the annual NARC Benevolent Fund Luncheon. With all proceeds from the $20 lunch as well as the raffle going into the Benevolent Fund, all are invited out to help raise money to support drivers and their families should they be injured.
