Ian Madsen Nets First Win of Season With KCP Racing

In what was a very busy week for the KCP Racing team, Ian Madsen rose to the occasion as he picked up the team’s first win of the season and pocked a four-pack of Top-Five finishes.

“It was a great week for our team,” Madsen said. “We had a great run at the Iowa State Fair Speedway, and did very well at the Knoxville Raceway and really at the Huset’s Speedway as well.”

Starting on the outside of the front row on Thursday night at the State Fair Speedway in Des Moines, IA, Madsen weathered a wild first attempted start before surging into the lead when the race finally went green.

Getting into lapped traffic by the eighth lap, Madsen had built up a comfortable lead as drivers battled for second behind him while he methodically worked his way through dense traffic.

A late stoppage was needed with just two laps to go, but that did not phase the St Marys, NSW driver as he was flawless on the restart and raced his way to his first win of the season with his KCP Racing team.

Heading to Brandon, SD on Friday night to go to battle with the National Sprint League at the Huset’s Speedway, Madsen got off to a fine start as he timed the Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply Inc. No. 18 machine in fastest during time trials.

Having a minor hiccup in his heat race, a sixth place effort would put Madsen in the B Main, which he won, before lining up in the fifth row for the feature event. As the track widened out as the feature moved along, Madsen was able to work his way forward and finish in the fourth position.

Heading to the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night for another round of NSL action, Madsen would also compete with the 360ci division in what was double feature night.

Timing the Greenland Homes of IA/Royal Flooring/Aspen Aire Inc. backed machine in second fastest in both divisions on what was Aspen Aire Inc. night at the track, Madsen would score a third place finish in his 360ci heat, before netting a fourth place effort in his 410ci heat.

Lining up in the second row for the 25-lap NSL feature event, Madsen would race hard with a pair of former Knoxville Raceway Champions in Danny Lasoski and Terry McCarl as the trio fought for the top spot.

A caution with five laps to go in the feature event, gave Madsen one final shot at the top spot, but he would settle for the final step on the podium with a third place finish.

“I was really happy with how we ran with the NSL over the weekend,” Madsen added. “We have been hit and miss with the series this year, but to get a couple of really good finishes and sit fifth in the standings is a good weekend with them.”

Lining up on the front row of the first 360ci feature event, Madsen would settle into the second spot as he chased after early race leader, Jon Agan. With Agan setting a blistering pace out front, Madsen would run in the second spot where he would finish, and find himself in the seventh row for the second feature.

With car owner, Bret Nehring, and team manager, Matt Barbara on the wrenches of the 360ci car, the duo had Madsen dialed in the second race as he worked the historic half mile to perfection, as he clawed his way forward.

Taking advantage of a couple caution flags sprinkled into the event, Madsen would charge his way up to finish fourth, closing out a very strong night at the Knoxville Raceway.

“It was a blast having Bret and Matt in the pit area helping out on the 360ci car,” Madsen said. “We also had Scotty Gordon and Joe Van Hemet helping us out so we would like to thank them as well for their hard work for us.”

Moving to the Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night, Madsen would close his weekend out with a Top-10, but rubber down conditions would see him finish in the ninth spot.

“We have been getting close every week, and I feel like everything came together so to speak this week,” Madsen said. “We picked up a win, and four Top-Fives to go along with a Top-10 and were in contention every time we hit the track.”

Ian and his KCP acing team would like to thank Nehring Construction, Team Kline Electric, Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Greenland Homes of Iowa, Royal Flooring, Aspen Aire Inc.
