Selinsgrove, PA — (August 29, 2015) — TJ Stutts of Liverpool clinched his first-ever sprint car track championship Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway with his fifth victory of the year in the 25-lap main event for 360 sprint cars.

The $2,000 win was his fourth in a row and 25th career at the track at the wheel of the Wise Motorsports No. 23-M.

Jeff Rine of Danville also scored his fifth victory of the year and the 96th of his career at Selinsgrove in the 25-lap late model feature. The win helped Rine stretch his lead in the points chase over three-time winner Steve Campbell of Danville.

Points leader Andrew Shoop of Mifflintown notched his third win of the year in the 12-lap pro stock race.

Selinsgrove Speedway will be dark Saturday, Sept. 5. The track’s next race will be the World of Outlaws Late Model Series-sanctioned 17th Annual National Open for super late models at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, sponsored by Jeff’s Auto Body & Recycling Center.

The 40-lap Late Model Open will pay $8,000 to win out of a $35,000-plus purse. The limited late models will share the racing card in a $1,000-to-win event. Ticket prices have been reduced for this year’s event and will be sold on race day: Adults $25; Students (12-17) $10; kids 11 and under FREE; and pit passes will be $35. Pre-race entertainment featuring the popular Frank Wicher Band will take place at the grandstand entrance from 1-4 p.m. Sunday before track gates open at 4 p.m.

Polesitter Steve Collins powered into the lead at the start of the sprint car feature. Collins was chased by second-place starter Kevin Albert for the first two laps until third-place starter Brian Nornhold took over the runner-up position.

On the 12th circuit, Nornhold made a pass for the lead in turn two as eighth-place starter TJ Stutts stormed into second. A lap later, Stutts took command of the field following an close three-car battle with Nornhold and Collins.

The red flag unfurled on lap 15 when Jim Shuster took a hard crash in turns three and four. Although no injuries were reported, Shuster was transported to an area hospital as a precautionary measure.

When the race resumed, Stutts held the front spot ahead of seventh-place starter Jason Shultz. The final caution flag slowed the field on lap 21 when Eric Tomecek’s car rolled to a stop in turn two.

Stutts led the rest of the way and posted a 2.5-second margin of victory over Shultz, sixth-place starter Ryan Kissinger, Collins, and 10th-place starter Nate Snyder.

Second-place starter Danny Snyder led the first two laps of the late model feature. On a lap three restart, fourth-place starter Steve Campbell took the lead with an inside pass on the frontstretch.

On another restart on lap five, sixth-place starter Jeff Rine pulled into the lead with an outside pass in turns one and two. The red flag waved on lap 8 for a crash on the backstretch involving Dave Brouse Sr. and Donnie Schick. Both drivers escaped injury.

When the race went back to green, fifth-place starter Coleby Frye took over second and set his sights on Rine. Following several more restarts, Rine was able to keep his car in front of the pack as a duel for second heated up between Frye and Campbell. At the finish, Rine was victorious by 2.7 seconds over Frye, Campbell, third-place starter Dan Stone, and seventh-place starter Jim Yoder.

Second-place starter Nate Stroup pulled into the lead at the start of the pro stock feature. N. Stroup led through lap seven when his tagged the wall in turn four and allowed 10th-place starter Andrew Shoop to drive underneath him for the lead. A lap later, 18th-place starter Brad Mitch charged into the runner-up position.

On the last lap, seventh-place starter Dave Brouse Jr. made a charge into the second spot, only to have his car disqualified during the post-race technical inspection. Shoop took the checkered flag over Mitch, who was awarded the second position. N. Stroup, Jake Buck, and AJ Stroup, who rebounded from a flat tire earlier in the race, rounded out the top five.
