MOBERLY, Mo. (Sept. 8, 2015) – Johnny Herrera powered to a pair of victories last weekend.

The wins gave him a three-race winning streak before the weekend concluded with a runner-up result on Sunday at Randolph County Raceway with the ASCS Warrior Region.

“It’s been going really good for us,” he said. “We were hoping to get three wins, but fell one short.”

Herrera kicked off the weekend on Friday with the ASCS Red River Region at Flint Creek Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Okla., by winning his heat race from the third starting position. That locked Herrera into the feature redraw.

“I sent my step daughter up there and heck, I’m going to take her out of school so she can draw for me,” he joked. “She drew the No. 1.”

Herrera took advantage of his pole position as he led the distance of the main event during his debut at the track.

“We took off and had a really good car,” he said. “It was real slick and it laid rubber by Lap 10 or 12. I think we lapped up to fifth or sixth.”

Herrera continued the momentum on Saturday at Randolph County Raceway during the first night of a doubleheader. Herrera claimed a heat race win to lock into the feature redraw and once again he got a great starting position during the random draw.

“She drew the No. 2 and we took off from there,” he said. “We had a really good car. We were on the fence and were never challenged. I think the race went nonstop. We lapped up to seventh or so. The car was really good.”

The victory was Herrera’s eighth of the season and sixth during a 14-race span. It also locked Herrera into the feature redraw for Sunday’s event. And once again, he pulled the No. 2 during the draw to start the final feature of the weekend on the outside of the front row.

“I led the first few laps and we had a restart and Wayne (Johnson) slid me,” he said. “I slid him back. I think we slid each other twice. I was running on the fence and I think it took rubber about Lap 8. He was running down a lane off the fence and found the rubber before I did and that’s the way it worked out.”

Herrera ended with a second-place finish, which was his 23rd top five of the season.

He will return to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition this Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.

“We’ve run second,” he said. “We’ve run fourth. One year I should have won and Jason (Johnson) got me on the last lap. I hesitated the last corner over a lapped car and Jason put a slider on me. We banged wheels and I ran second. We’ve run pretty well there.”
