The United Rebel Sprint Series capped off its Tenth Season Celebration with all four of its Points Championships going down to the wire in the final race of the season. Parity was the name of the game this season with the URSS as it had only three repeat winners. It is the bedrock that the series was founded on and provides the fans the best show on dirt year after year.
The 2015 Myers Engine URSS National Point Series featured nine different winners in the ten races which comprised Championship. The Championship went down to the wire as the top four spots were within 34 points of each other. Arvada, Colorado’s Jake Bubak prevailed to become the only driver in URSS history to take the National Championship three consecutive years. Bubak’s road to the crown wasn’t without its drama as a rare DQ at the Bullring Nationals on July 31 in Lacrosse Kansas left an opening for the other challengers to take advantage of. But Bubak used consistent finishes in the remaining nine races to capture the crown finishing no worse than seventh place in those races to three peat as the URSS Champion.
The 2015 Myers Engine URSS National Rookie of the Year went down to the wire as well as a pair of fourteen year old drivers went to the final race. Greeley Colorado’s Austin McClean and Liberal Kansas’s Tracey Hill took to the track to duke it out to which of the young guns would walk away with the title. The pair made all 10 National Point races in the 2015 season which made for a classic showdown. The points lead shifted back and forth during the season between the two and was the closest ROY race in URSS History. Austin McClean used his qualifying for 6 out of the 10 National Feature races giving him the edge he needed to take the 2015 Myers Engine URSS National Rookie of the Year Championship by a mere 8 points.
The 2015 Kansas Region points’ battle was a tight one as well, with parity also being the main story as well. In the 19 races held in the Kansas Region 15 different drivers took the checkered flag during the 2015 season. Quinter Kansas’s Zach Blurton took the Championship with a string of top ten finishes including a three wins this season. Blurton made all but one of the 19 races in the Kansas Region and used solid finishes and a single DNF to win the Kansas Points Championship. Blurton adds his third title to his resume in his nine years of racing with the URSS Series, Blurton was the 2010 National Rookie of the Year as well as the 2010 Kansas Region Rookie of the Year.
The 2015 Kansas Region Rookie of the Year went to 14 year old Tracey Hill of Liberal Kansas. Hill made all 19 of the Kansas Region races this season and made the most of his rookie season by making the A Feature in 12 of those 19 starts. Tracey’s highest finish was a third place at the August 29th race held at RPM Speedway in Hays Kansas. Look for great things to come in the future from Tracey as he is one of the hot shoes to follow in the URSS Series.
