PUYALLUP, Wash. (Nov. 17, 2015) – Trey Starks had a breakout year in a big way during the 2015 season.

Starks registered career highs with eight feature wins, including triumphs in five different states, as well as 30 top fives and 35 top 10s. He also captured his first career championship by claiming the Western Sprint Tour title.

“We put together our best season ever on two different levels,” he said. “First, our results were the best we’ve accomplished and we won our first championship. Second, we tackled a new level of competition by racing on the East Coast at the end of the season and produced some of our best results out there on tracks we’d never seen.”

Starks earned two feature triumphs at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore., including the inaugural Western Sprint Tour race. He also won twice in his home state of Washington at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma and at Central Washington State Fair Raceway in Yakima.

However, it was a pair of wins at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., when he was driving for Doug Rutz and victories at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., and Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., while piloting a sprint car for Jeff McCall that stand out to Starks.

“We expect to win races and run well at home because we have a lot of laps on those tracks,” he said. “It was huge to win our first time in Montana, Florida and South Carolina. It was a big boost to my confidence to drive for three different owners and win with all three, especially at different tracks across the country.”

Additionally, Starks nearly scored his first career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series during the season finale when he led the first 12 laps at the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., earlier this month before a damaged part in his front end ended the bid for a trip to Victory Lane.

“We were consistent throughout most of the season and were especially strong the final two months,” he said. “This was definitely a breakout year for me as a driver and the momentum should springboard us into 2016 with a lot of confidence.”

Starks is scheduled to open the 2016 season on Jan. 1-2, Jan. 5 and Jan. 8-9 at the 2nd annual Winter Heat Sprint Car Showdown at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz.
