LAS CRUCES, N.M. (April 1, 2016) Jumping in the John James owned No. 4j, El Paso’s John Carney II picked up his third overall A-Feature victory in 2016, and his second career win with the Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Region at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in the ASCS Southwest Sprint Car Shootout.

Battling the better part of the race with Logan Forler, the duo traded the lead on Lap 14 with Forler stealing it away off the exit of turn-two. Skipping through the cushion in turn-three, Carney turned the car down the track to keep his night’s record of laps led perfect.

Taking several shots on late race restarts, Forler was unable to keep pace with the No. 4j, settling for the runner-up spot.

Coming from eighth, Johnny Herrera was in the mix for the win as well in the latter part of the race. Rolling low, the No. 45x crossed third with Rick Ziehl taking the night’s final transfer spot into Saturday’s $5,000 to win A-Feature event and in doing so, takes over the series points lead.

Arizona’s Colton Hardy rounded out the night’s top-five.

From 18th, Wes Wofford came up to finish sixth with R.J. Johnson in tow. Kyle McCutcheon was eighth with Bob Ream, Jr. ninth. After spinning on Lap 11, Lorne Wofford rebounded to finish out the top-ten.
