Croft Tames Tulare For Fourth Win of Season

Returning to the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA for the first time since his podium run with the World of Outlaws back in early March, Willie Croft was two spots better on Saturday night as he picked up his fourth win of the 2016 season, and first KWS win of the year.

“We have been so good in the No. 29 car all year long,” Croft said. “We haven’t really been doing anything different but we have confidence in everything we do and that translates into good results.”

A bit of redemption from the series opener back in April when a tangle in front of him knocked him out of the race lead with just five laps to go, Croft came out swinging on Saturday night as he timed the Holey Smokes BBQ/ButlerBuilt/Brown and Miller No. 29 in third quickest during qualifying time trials.

Grabbing the win during his heat race, Croft would move into the night’s Dash where he fended off Colby Copeland to pick up the win and earn the right to start o the pole of the 30-lap feature event.

On a track that offered Croft and the rest of the field a little bit of everything, he would jump out to the early lead with Copeland and Abreu hot on his tail.

In a race that featured numerous stoppages, one in particular worked out for Croft and that was on the 11th circuit after Abreu was able to get in front of him.

The ensuing restart saw Croft mash the loud pedal and open up a sizeable lead on the competition as he worked around the challenging Thunderbowl Raceway.

On the 21st lap, Abreu would close in on Croft and as the duo got into the third turn Abreu challenged for the top spot again, but his bid for the top spot would see him get over the cushion and end up upside down.

Able to avoid the wreck, Croft would continue to lead the way as he went on to pick up his fourth win of the year as he continues to have a brilliant 2016 season.

“It feels good to get a win at Tulare,” Croft said. “After winning Trophy Cup in 2014, 2015 in Tulare was really tough on me, so to come back in 2016 and finish third with the World of Outlaws and to now win with the King of the West is pretty cool. I have to thank my crew and everyone who continues to support this team.”

Willie Croft Racing would like to thank Holey Smokes BBQ, ButlerBuilt , Brown and Miller, FK Rod Ends, Hinchman Indy, Schoenfeld, Smith Precision Products, Kaeding Performance, Dan Olson Products, Vortex Wings, Amerikote, and GUTS for their support in 2016.

2016 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-7, Wins-4, Top 5’s-5, Top 10’s-5.

ON TAP: Croft will follow the King of the West Series to the Stockton Dirt Track this coming Saturday night.
