Danny Smith Announces 2016 Nationals will be his Last

CHILLCOTHE, Oh. — (July 25, 2016) — Veteran driver Danny Smith announced on Monday that the 56th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals will the last start at Nationals of his career. Smith made the announcement on his Facebook page that he plans on staying active as a driver, but will limit his schedule to smaller race tracks in the future.

Smith has competed in the Nationals 37 previous times according to statistics on the Knoxville Raceway website. Smith has made the Knoxville Nationals feature on 13 occasions with seven top-10 finishes. In 1996 Smith was victorious in what is now known as the SPEED SPORT World Challenge. Smith also won the B-Main at the Nationals in 1986 and the Mystery Feature in 1979.

Smith has three feature wins to his credit this season.
