PLACERVILLE, Calif. — (July 27, 2016) — With the King of the West 410 Sprint Cars venturing to the Placerville Speedway on Saturday the question of the day will certainly be, is there anyone that can stop two-time series champion & current point leader Kyle Hirst?

The 28-year-old Paradise, CA resident has captured the last three King of the West events and goes into the Placerville bullring with a commanding lead in the series standings. The wheel-man of the Roth Motorsports/ Tarlton & Son No. 21x has won five features overall and looks to set a new personal high for wins in a single KWS season this weekend. Last year Hirst also swept both series events at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds facility.

Overall this Saturday’s event marks round 13 in the battle for the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series championship. It finishes off a busy month of July that has seen the tour compete throughout the Central Valley and the South Bay, before finishing up in the Sierra Foothills with the second of three season appearances at the Placerville Speedway. It’s also the last race before an extended three week break for the Knoxville Nationals and the Johnny Key Classic.

Campbell’s Bud Kaeding claimed the first King of the West event at Placerville Speedway and goes into Saturday sitting second in the series standings. The three-time USAC Silver Crown champ finished runner up both nights to Hirst last week at the Peter Murphy Classic and hopes to change that on Saturday aboard the Williams Motorsports 0 machine. Kaeding has earned three total victories so far this season.

Hanford’s DJ Netto ranks third in the standings, but is expected to be absent for other obligations on Saturday. First year full-time King of the West competitor Justyn Cox of Clarksburg goes into Saturday ranking fourth in the points and looks to move up. Cox will be gunning for a strong run at a track that he has a number of laps at aboard the Berco Redwood No. 31c Sprinter.

Grass Valley’s Jason Statler rounds out the top-five in the standings at the helm of the DF Rios Motorsports 00. The 2004 King of the West champ looks to rebound after a tough ending to a solid run at the Peter Murphy Classic last week. Gilroy’s Jarrett Soares, Atwater’s Sean Watts, Watsonville’s Justin Sanders, Hanford’s Mitchell Faccinto and Chico’s Jonathan Allard complete the top-10 in the standings going into Placerville.

Fremont’s Shane Golobic has been one of the most consistent drivers over the last couple months and will be a favorite on Saturday. Golobic is always a driver to beat at the high-banked quarter mile clay oval and has been close to a KWS victory there before. Past King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series champion Tyler Walker will be another driver to reckon with this weekend. The Los Angeles pilot typically runs strong at the Placerville Speedway and has won multiple series events at the track in the past.

More drivers expected will include Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan, Roseville’s Sean Becker, Penngrove’s Buddy Kofoid, Placerville’s Andy Gregg, Auburn’s Richard Brace Jr., Sacramento’s Stephen Ingraham, Murrieta’s Cori Andrews and others.

Adult tickets this Saturday cost $22, seniors 62 & over and juniors 12-15 will be $15 with kids 6-11 being $6. Children under 6 are free. The pit gate at Placerville Speedway on Saturday opens at 2pm, with the front gate opening at 3pm and racing anticipated to begin around 7pm.

The Placerville Speedway is located on the beautiful El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. Take Hwy US-50 to Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit. Then go north on Placerville Drive to the Fairgrounds. The physical address is 100 Placerville Dr., Placerville, CA 95667.
