OHSWEKEN, Ont. (September 14, 2016) — The 12th annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals weekend at Ohsweken Speedway is almost here. With over 70 cars pre-entered, anticipation is high for the track’s signature event.

The 2016 Canadian Sprint Car Nationals weekend will kick off with a Test & Tune session on Thursday, September 15, while racing will commence Friday, September 16 with the Burger Barn Night Before the Nationals, and finish with the 12th annual Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals on Saturday, September 17. Several records could fall this weekend, including the high of 77 entrants set in 2009.

The 2015 edition of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals produced one of the best races in Ohsweken Speedway history, as Bryan Howland (Union Springs NY) drove from 20th to 1st, edging out 3-time CSCN winner Steve Poirier (Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil QC), Parker Price-Miller (Kokomo IN), and Mark Smith (Sunbury PA) for the $12,000 prize. All four of those drivers will be back this weekend, along with dozens more.

Among those set to challenge Howland, Poirier, Price-Miller, and Smith are; 2014 CSCN winner Jessica Friesen (née Zemken) (Sprakers NY), 2011 CSCN winner Sam Hafertepe Jr. (Sunnyvale TX), and Brandon Wimmer (Fairmount IN). While Wimmer is a CSCN rookie, his Gaerte/Norman #3g team has been to victory lane three times at CSCN with current World of Outlaws standout Shane Stewart.

Champions from all over the region are sure to make noise this weekend as well, including Great Lakes Super Sprints champ Chase Ridenour (Perry MI), National Racing Alliance Sprint Invaders champ Jared Horstman (Cloverdale OH), Ohsweken Speedway Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Car champ Mitch Brown (Brantford ON), Patriot Sprint Tour champ Jared Zimbardi (Bradford PA), and Southern Ontario Sprints champ Dylan Westbrook (Scotland ON). Meanwhile, Steve Poirier is likely to lock up his 7th career Empire Super Sprints title this Friday at Ohsweken when the ESS tour makes up their A-Feature which was rained out on August 5.

At least a dozen entrants will be going after the Fine Touch Collision Rookie of the Nationals Award this weekend, including; Amber Balcaen (Winnipeg MB), Cole MacDonald (Waterdown ON), Brandon Wimmer, Steve Lyons (Carlisle ON), Zach Weigand (Syracuse NY), Coleman Gulick (Binghamton NY), Josh Shantz (St. Agatha ON), Matt Billings (Brockville ON), Alex Vigneault (Trois-Rivieres QC), Jordan Poirier (Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil QC), Pete Richardson (Vernon NY), Chad Miller (Amsterdam NY), and Jake Brown (Brantford ON).

All those names barely scratch the surface of the star-studded lineup ready to take on Canada’s largest Sprint Car event this weekend. Don’t miss it!
