PORT ROYAL, Penn. (October 21, 2016) — Port Royal Speedway has canceled its October 22 Open Wheel Madness racing program due to inclement weather for late season racing. With a forecast for lingering rains early on Saturday giving way to an intense, biting wind and temperatures expected to top out around 50, the reluctant decision to cancel was made late Friday afternoon.

Port Royal Speedway officials consulted with the National Weather Service in State College late on Friday afternoon and after receiving information that winds are predicted to be sustained at 20 mph, gusting to as high as 30 and 40 mph, and not expected to subside into Saturday evening, officials with URC and the PASS along with oval officials decided the best decision was to call off the event.

The timely decision to cancel will allow fans and teams traveling from afar to make other plans to attend other races occurring in New York, Ohio and North Carolina while also preventing them from incurring any of the expenses involved with trekking to Port Royal.

The annual Port Royal Foliage Days event, a craft, food and flea market held around the speedway this weekend will go on as slated.

The season is now concluded at Port Royal Speedway with the annual banquet slated for Saturday, November 19 at 5 pm at the Port Royal Community Building.
