November 14, 2016 – The TKS Motorsports #2KS team and owners Troy and Tammy Renfro are happy to announce Altoona, Iowa’s Austin McCarl as their driver for the 2017 season. The team will compete weekly at Knoxville Raceway as well as other big shows in the Midwest, including those at Badlands Motor Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota and Jackson Speedway in Minnesota.

The TKS Motorsports team took their time in selecting a driver after a very successful year in 2016. “We sat down with our partners and decided on Austin,” says Troy. “We’re looking forward to adding him to our team. We’re really happy, and glad we took our time making a decision. We had to make a choice that is best for our partners and for our team.”

Of course, Troy is very familiar with his new driver. “I remember the day he was born, which makes me feel really old,” he says. “I think this will be a great opportunity for him. We’re looking at definitely running Knoxville and the bigger shows at Badlands and Jackson. The other events, we’ll fill in between.”

“I’m really fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to drive for the Renfro family,” says Austin. “I couldn’t be more excited to take this next step in my career. Troy is a great mechanic and I will go in knowing I’ll have good racecars with good engines and great support from Casey’s General Stores, Des Moines Industrial Products (DMIP) and all of our other great partners.”

Austin ran with the National Sprint League in 2015, and was at Badlands most Saturday nights in 2016 in his own car. He’s looking forward to returning to weekly competition at Knoxville, where he was one of the youngest to qualify for the Knoxville Nationals championship event back in 2011. “I’m excited to be coming back to Knoxville weekly and competing for a championship,” he says. “It should be a lot of fun. It will be awesome to show up at these shows with a great mechanic in my corner. I’m super-excited.”
