BIRCH RUN, Mich. (August 7, 2017) – The Must See Racing Sprint Car Series has added a special, non-points event to its season calendar, teaming up with Birch Run Speedway for an Aug. 25 program at theBir four-tenths-mile oval.
Formerly known as Dixie Motor Speedway, recent renovations and updates by new owner Andy Suski have turned Birch Run into one of Michigan’s premier short tracks.
The Friday night special will mark Must See Racing’s inaugural appearance at the facility.
“What a privilege it is for all of us at Must See Racing to be able to team up with a first-class facility like Birch Run Speedway,” said MSR president and founder Jim Hanks. “We’re truly looking forward to being able to bring the ‘World’s Fastest Short Track Cars’ to the speedway fans and are ready to put on a show for all of them.”
“This is a track that our drivers are looking forward to racing at and we’re all excited for the American Racer Invitational, as well as working with the staff at Birch Run as we move into the second half of our season.”
The event will feature a full program of time trials and heat races prior to the 30-lap main event.
In two special twists for the night, qualified teams will receive a free right rear tire for the event, and unlike in most MSR races (where teams must use the same right rear tire for the whole night), there will be no limit on the number of right rear tires that can be used at Birch Run for the invitational.
“I don’t know who’s more excited, the drivers, the fans or all of us at Birch Run that sprint cars have a chance to invade our facility for a late-summer date,” said track general manager Mike Szukhent. “It’s going to be a true spectacle of speed and thrills and we couldn’t be more excited to team up with Jim and all the staff at Must See Racing to put on what we anticipate to be one of the most-talked about shows of the year.”
Szukhent added that he hopes American Racer Invitational will be a stepping-stone to a return for the Must See Racing Sprint Car Series in 2018 as well.
“Based on where we’re going and the comfort level and interaction we’ve already received since announcing the event, we’re not just talking it; we would like to have the series back for a minimum of two dates next year,” said Szukhent. “The brand of entertainment these cars put on is second-to-none and we’re excited about the future possibilities.”
The Midwest Compact Touring Series and pro late models will accompany the Must See Racing sprint cars on the racing card for the American Racer Invitational.
Pit gates on race day at Birch Run will open at 2 p.m., with hot laps rolling off at 4:00 and qualifying taking place at 6:30. The racing program begins at 7:30, following opening ceremonies.
