American Onslaught Has Begun; Is a Clean Sweep Possible?

From JAK Media

The American onslaught in Qld has already begun with Jesse Hockett and Bud Kaeding winning the two International Sprintcar Series events at Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) last week, and tomorrow night the “Yanks” up the ante by bringing in the big guns in a bid to clean sweep the Summer Of Speed Sprintcar shows at Archerfield.

The might and power of the American Sprintcar arsenal doesn’t get any bigger than World Of Outlaws Champion Donny Schatz from North Dakota, so if you’re going into battle against Australia’s best it’s fair to say he’s a pretty handy bloke to have on your side. With four Outlaws Championships, four Knoxville Nationals rings and a hundred Outlaw Feature wins already during his career, there’s little doubt Donny will eventually make it into the National Sprintcar Hall Of Fame when the rules allow for his nomination.

Records are meant to be set but they’re also meant to be broken. Last January, Donny set a new time for fifty laps of the 1/4 mile Speedway at Archerfield in a non-stop Australian Sprintcar Open that will forever be remembered as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, drives by any driver at the track. Donny ran the fifty laps in a time of 12m 16.309s, and when he took the chequers everyone else was still on lap forty-nine. The word “domination” only just begins to describe Donny’s feat that night and there’s a feeling that his race record may never be beaten. If it ever does, you would certainly want to be there to see it happen.

Seven Americans will try to qualify for a spot in Wednesday night’s $10,000 to win, thirty-five lap Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup at Archerfield. Joining Schatz will be Brent and Bud Kaeding, Jesse Hockett, Danny Smith, Jason Johnson and Jason Sides – the American contingent is a formidable one to say the least.

However the Australians are a proud and patriotic bunch of racers and they will want nothing more than to break the stranglehold the Americans have on the Sprintcar races at BIS this summer.

Brooke Tatnell, Robbie Farr and Max Dumesny sit one through three in the 2009/10 Performance Wholesale World Series Championship standings. Garry Brazier and Kerry Madsen are equal to anyone on their day and know how to win the big races, their records speak for themselves. David Murcott, Danny Reidy and James McFadden are just three of the current crop of drivers who aspire to take over the lofty stature of those above them in years to come.

It’s a thirty-seven car field for a special mid-week, Wednesday night event at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway and the BIS Promotional team are expecting that to climb even higher for Friday and Saturday night. The inaugural Capalaba Wreckers Sprintcar Cup field is set with seven Americans and thirty Australians. Who will win it the and earn themselves an extra $20K pay cheque if they can double up in the fifty lap Titan Garages Australian Sprintcar Open on Saturday night?

When you look through the list of nominations below, when you consider the quality of the field from both sides of the Pacific, when you have trouble just picking a winner for Wednesday night, you then have to ask yourself if it’s even possible for that one driver to win again on Saturday.
