MUSEUM-BENEFIT “POKER RUN” SCHEDULED FOR SATURDAY OF KNOXVILLE’S AMA-SANCTIONED MOTORCYCLE RACE WEEKEND

By Bob Baker

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 3, 2011) – The 501(c)(3) non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation’s inaugural “poker run” will take place on Saturday afternoon, September 10, during Knoxville Raceway’s Classic Flat Track National Championship (CFTNC) and American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship weekend. The three destinations on this year’s poker run, besides the museum in Knoxville which currently features the “Salute to Champion Tony Stewart” special exhibition, are Big Barn Harley-Davidson in Des Moines, R-K Performance in Ottumwa, and Highway 65 Harley-Davidson in Indianola.

According to museum executive director Bob Baker, “Following last year’s ‘rain out’ of our poker run and the track’s AMA races, we are doubly excited this year for a great weekend for motorcycle enthusiasts, September 9-10. Riders on the 2011 poker run will leave the museum by 10 a.m. Saturday morning and they will return by 4 p.m., allowing everyone time to enjoy a catered Rib Shack dinner during the museum’s awards presentation prior to the night’s AMA Pro flat track racing program.”

Registration forms for the fun charity ride, which costs just $35, are available on-line at www.sprintcarhof.com/pages/specialevents. Individuals are also encouraged to call museum poker run volunteer coordinator Bob Colbert at 515-729-1343.

The September 9-10 weekend opens on Friday night with the fifth and final round of the Classic Flat Track National Championship (CFTNC) Series vintage motorcycle races and closes on Saturday night with the AMA Pro Flat-Track motorcycle races. The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame is located off turn number two at the legendary Knoxville Raceway and is open seven days a week, year-round.
