London, Ontario (Sept 9, 2011) – Sunday of the Labour Day Weekend would
dawn rainy and cool, causing some to question if the races would go or
not. However, right on schedule, the SOS cars were pushed to the track
and fired up for the last night of action in the 2011 season.

The Southern Ontario Sprint Car Feature would see the green fall with
the #11 of Chris Jones from Picton leading the way. Jones who took home
the only Labour Day checkered from 2010 was dominant the first half of
the race while the #5 of Keith Dempster, #0 of Dave Dykstra and the 42w
“Joyceville Jet” Rick Wilson tried to chase him down. The #79 of Dick
Mahoney ran out of room in corner 4 and banged the car off the front
stretch wall ending his night, while bad luck again struck the #9 of Jim
Munsie, as he flipped his car again, this time in turn 4 ending his
night early. By lap 9 Dempster had made his way around Jones while
Wilson had made his way around Dykstra. Dempster began to check out on
the field while Wilson worked on Jones. Wilson and Dykstra were able to
clear Jones and started to chase down Dempster. Just as fast as Dempster
had got the lead, he had now run into lapped traffic which allowed
Wilson and Dykstra to close the gap. The three were now in real tight
quarters as they tried to work their way through the back of the field.
Dempster moved low to try and get under the #66 of Frank Baranowski just
as Rick Wilson closed in. Rick “the Joyceville Jet” Wilson made a go for
broke pass around the outside, almost off the track, but held on to
shoot to the lead with just two laps left! Wilson did not look back and
went on to take his fourth all time Labour Day Classic win, placing him
in front of Glenn Styres who has three Labour Day Classic wins. Dempster
came home second with Dykstra a very close third. Lee Ladouceur would
get a top ten finish which was enough to secure him his first ever
Southern Ontario Sprint Car Championship.
