After a disappointing result last year, Danny Reidy is excited about his return to tackle this June Long Weekend’s 2012 Finke Desert Race that will be held in his home town of Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
This year Reidy has teamed up with co-driver Phil Anderson, who is a former Northern Territory Speedway Sidecar champion, and the pair is aiming to be more than just making up the numbers in the ‘Truck’ class.
“I’m confident that we can go for our class win and hopefully challenge for a top 10 finish overall,” Reidy enthused on the eve of contesting his third Finke Desert Race. “We had some fuel issues last year, but since then we’ve learnt a lot about the truck, both on and off the track, and feel that we have a good enough package to be competitive from the outset.”
Since last year’s Finke Desert Race with co-driver and best mate Daniel Hayes, which came to a premature end due to ongoing fuel issues, Reidy has contested numerous off road events on the east coast of the country, and it brought plenty of positive signs.
The Finke Desert Race, regarded as the biggest off road event in Australia, is held over three days, which includes Prologue on Saturday (June 9), followed by day one on Sunday (June 10) and then the second and final day on Monday (June 11). The event begins at Alice Springs on Saturday and then it’s a 226km journey to Finke. The second and final day is another 226km journey from Finke back to Alice Springs.
