McQueen Finesses Way to Top 5 at Madera

By Robert Haugh

Bakersfield, CA – June 11, 2012

Bakersfield’s Shannon McQueen finessed the McQueen /Eskesen/Rescino Racing #7 Beast/Mopar to a very strong Top 5 run in the stellar USAC-Western States field at the 1/3-mile Madera Speedway on Saturday, June 9.

After making adjustments after the Heat race, including changing the Right Rear tire to gain stagger, McQueen charged from the rear of the field, having started 14th overall in the dual-sanctioned race, charging to fourth place overall in the first 18 laps. After fighting to the front, McQueen lost the handle of the car, having burned the right front tire off while fighting to the front, allowing Nick Chivello to make the pass for third place late in the race. After an up-and-down day, McQueen salvaged yet another Top 5 run, coming home fourth in the 30-lap feature.

McQueen compiled the third fastest lap of the Feature, and third fastest lap during the first practice session. After the first practice session, changes were made for the second practice session, hoping to pick up some speed, however the changes caused the car to lose stagger, developing a push. Having made more changes for qualifications, McQueen says the car pushed like a dump truck in qualifying, posting the seventh best lap, a 14.445 mark.

McQueen claimed the Heat win from the outside pole.

McQueen’s Top 5 run maintains her USAC-Western States points lead.

Next up for McQueen Racing is the June 30 BCRA event the 1/4-mile red clay Placerville Speedway at the El Dorado Fairgrounds in beautiful Gold Country. McQueen will be piloting the McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger.
