The one that got away

Despite recording his third podium finish of the season in last Saturday night’s fifth round of the KRE Sprintcar Series at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, Danny Reidy was left wondering what might’ve been.

The driver of the NQ # 5 Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs supported J&J set a cracking pace in the opening 10 laps of the feature race, only to make a mistake – hitting a rut – and consequently losing his once healthy lead and dropping back to third. Reidy tried his best to fight back, which was hampered by an engine issue from the previous weekend that had resurrected, but at the fall of the chequered flag had to settle for third place on the podium.

“It’s certainly a race that left me disappointed; I felt that I lost that race by making that error because everything had been going great up until then,” admitted Reidy, who had started from the outside of the front row of the 30-lap feature race. “When I lost the lead, I did my best to try and fight back, but I was held back by a stumble in the engine which hurt my speed and prevented me from challenging the leaders.”

Overall, Reidy’s night was a consistent one: he qualified fifth in time trials, then finished second and third in his two heat races from the back of the field, and went into the dash as the highest point scorer. Drawing a position four starting spot for the dash, he fought his way forward to finish in second and lock in his front row feature race start.

Reidy will return to Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway for this Saturday night’s (December 15) make-up KRE Series round from a rain out earlier in the season.

Reidy would like to thank Desert Palms Resort – Alice Springs, Camden Neon Signs, P&M Motor Body Repairs, Gonzo’s Race Pipes and Inglis Race Engines for all of their 2012-13 season support.
